UPDATE 9/5/10 - Archie is doing great! He has had no problems adjusting to life here. He does very well with the children. We enjoy taking him for walks on the beach he is friendly with all the other dogs we meet. We are amazed by Archie everyday he is such a good boy! We love the newest member of our family. UPDATE 8/11/10 - Awesome Archie is settling in at home very well. He has two human brothers that he plays great with and a sister he treats like the princess she is. They run around and wear themselves out which makes his mom happy. He follows his daily routine and the kids enjoy helping take care of him. He loves going in the car for a ride or to where ever we are going for the day. He is always on his best behavior where ever we go. He has done well with all the dogs he has met and he likes hanging out pool side with his new friend Molly a beautiful black lab. Neither of them swim but they keep an eye on things that go on in the yard. He does excellent on the leash with no pulling and comes when he is called. We can't wait to start obedience training we already think Archie is amazing! 8/4/10 - Archie has been adopted! 7/30/10 - Well Archie has been here long enough for all his bad habits to come to the surface and I must tell you very few have arisen. I believe Archie is a little fearful. Loud noise startle him and he is a little sly when first meeting people. Other then those Archie is the best boy ever. He has started to play with a stuffed toy. I found out he likes soft squeaky toys rather then the balls and rope toys. He will make a great addition to your family He is waiting for your phone call. 7/15/10 Hi, I went to my foster Mom's sister's house for my first vacation. As you already know, I love to ride in the car. It was about a 4 hour drive up to beautiful Lake Winnipe in New Hampshire. Also there was My Foster Mom's, brother-law, son, daughter and their two children, ages four and two. This was a full house and very busy. This was the first time my foster Mom had me around children. I did great!! They threw balls for me. l don’t fetch, but they kept trying. The little people rode on all sorts of toys, and I would have to get up and move, but that didn’t bother me. They would feed me treats (my Foster Mom taught them that they had to make me sit before I got any treat). No one could believe how nice and gentle I took the treat. In fact, they kept saying that I was so calm and gentle. I guess two Labs had been visiting before and they said I was so much calmer than they were. My Mom taught me right away that I had to do my business in the wooded area, and not on the lawn (her sister doesn’t want any of those brown spots) I mastered that with no problem. I wasn’t allowed to go down to the Lake so I spent my time down in the cool basement with my bed. I didn’t mind that at all. Everyone was so proud of me that I didn’t scratch at the door or do any damage. I hope my foster Mom is going to post my new picture. 7/10/10 Hi all this is Archie and Mom is very busy this morning as we are going on something calla vacation. Not sure exactly what this is but I think it involves going in the car and I just love the car. I was a little concerned that any one that was looking for me might not know where I am so that is why I took over this page. I am only going to be in New Hampshire on a huge Lake so I am not far. Please do not forget me. My FM is wondering what I will be like in the water and boat. I'm not sure myself so we will all be surprised on the outcome. I will be sure to let you all know. FM also assured me that everyone will know how to reach us even on vacation so you can still call on me okay...OH, GOODY she is calling me and I get to go in the car.....Bye. Call okay....I can not wait to meet you. 7/1/10 Archie had a sleep over date last weekend as FM had to go out of town for the night. He was lucky to go to a home who had three young children. Two girls and a baby that was just starting to walking. They all fell in love with him and although he was a little confused he was great with the girls and they all went on a walk with the baby in the stroller and he was perfect with them. There was no pulling to see other dogs he saw along the way. When I pulled up to pick him up he was outside with the oldest girl laying in the grass with her while she was putting grass all over his back and he was just letting her do her thing I wish I had my camera out.. The Mom confirmed that he was such a good boy. Now you have a second opinion,,,what more do you need.. 6/18/10 Archie continues to be the best foster I have had. He is beginning to be a little more vocal now when company arrives at the door. Its funny I have given him some bones and when he takes an interest in them he will sometimes take them in another room to chew like he needs some quite time while he chews. So funny. He is so waiting for your phone call. Please don't keep him waiting much longer. He really deserves to be settled in a forever home. 6/11/10 - I keep thinking Archie is going to show some signs of misbehaving but he continues to be the best boy. Today it was "take my Foster to work" I do this to really test his car manners. We knew that he rode great in the car but today there was a lot of stops with me getting in and out of the car. Archie just waited like a good boy. Never tried to jump out of the car and I even had the tailgate open while I made a delivery and he just stood in the back seat and watching us first put stuff in the car and then at the next stop take it out and again was just the best boy. I had strangers walk up to the car and not a peep out of him. We were out for about 5 hours so if you like to take your dog with you then Archie will love to be with you., Archie will greet all your guest and neighbors very calmly and gently. He just walks up slowly and lets everyone pet him. He is not a jumpy licky greeter. What more could you want?!? 6/8/10 Well, what a day can make in the life of a foster. Archie has now settled in and is very comfortable with all his surroundings. In fact, he is so comfortable he found the couch and is stretched out havering a great nap. It took him a couple of days to realize that life is okay here and I am sure it will take that long when you take him home. He really is such a sweet boy who is very low maintenance. He stays with you off leash and he is great in his crate but can also be left alone in the house with no problems. Archie loves to do the 500Ft dash up and down the yard. The nice thing is he does not run right into. He is the softest boy that I have had in a long time. The perfect size, not small but not large either. Oh, I forgot he is starting to talk to me. Let's me know when he wants to get the day going, wants to go out and of course should I forget breakfast or dinner he is sure to remind me. 6/610 - Archie arrived in CT today after a very long day. I am sure this boy is just so confused but will learn that he can be the calm quite fun loving boxer that he has always wanted to be. We moved him because with the other resident dog he was being a bit possessive over food and toys. When they were outside they played along fine, but once in the house the scraping would happen every so often, so we decided to move him into a home with no other dog. We think Archie had a tough life and had to fight for everything so we would like to give him the life he deserves a calm non threatening life. So my first impression of this boy is he will make a wonderful companion and friend for life. Already I know that he rides wonderful in the car and does not beg for food. He is wonderful on the leash. I walked him just a little when no one was around so in a few days we will walk with some distractions and see how he does. He checked out the house and is now laying next me. I even got his cute tail wagging already. Stay tuned for more updates, but don't be surprised if he catches someone's eye because this boy is a keeper... 6/3/10 - Archie is a happy, loving, loyal boy. He is eating great and digesting well the past 2 weeks. Such a silly boxer, he loves to have his chin scratched and will put his head up in the air to let you know when! Likewise, he loves those belly rubs and when he’s not already sleeping on his back with all fours in the air, he’ll roll over to let you know it is time for a good rub! Archie continues to be hot/cold with our resident female, so we are going to move him this weekend to a foster home without another dog to give him a chance to be the star of the show! We love this handsome guy and will miss him, but are confident this is best for him right now…after all that is what his second chance is all about! 5/18/10 - We are learning more about Archie everyday. It has been a bit slow, only because he wasn’t feeling too well the first week in foster care. Even though Archie has gone with the flow here from day one, we continue to see bits of his personality emerge as time passes. He loves one on one attention and would rather run around the yard and play with you or go on a nice long walk, than sit and play with toys or even other dogs. Archie is sometimes hot/cold with our resident female, and we are watching this closely to see if that changes as he becomes more trusting of his new environment. He is a little under weight, but we are going slow helping his stomach adjust to better quality food and looking out to be sure he doesn’t have any sensitivities. Archie is doing well on the leash and with each walk is learning on his own to keep pace with his foster mama. He is a very smart, loyal and mild mannered boy who deserves a forever home that can give him love, time and attention. You will not be disappointed by the love Archie gives in return! 5/11/10 - Archie has been with us a week now. He is a quiet boy, not a kissy or a jumpy boxer, although he occasionally jumps up with both paws on your chest for a face to face chat. He loves to give you his paw (on his own) in situations he finds appropriate and loves his human contact! He has had a rough week adjusting to all the recent changes in his life, but is a resilient boy who is anxious to put it all behind him and meet his forever family. 5/3/10- Archie was sprung from a 2 week shelter stay yesterday and charmed all of the volunteers he encountered on the way to his foster home. He is a gentle, loving and silly 4 year old who loves people. He took time out of his foster yard introduction to paw up to the fence and quietly introduce himself to the neighbors, with that not-so-little nub a waggalin! He integrated well immediately with his 9 yr old foster sister and while sticking close to the humans, settled in quickly as though he'd been here forever. More to come on this sweet angel! |
