| UPDATE 12/22/09 - Hello everyone, I can’t believe it is time for an update again! Starr continues to improve with each day that passes. The most improved issue has been when people come for visits to the house. She was a very nervous young lady and would growl and bark at every movement of the new arrival. Now we get a warning bark of sorts and she is over it. Starr no longer jumps when company comes, and I’m happy to report does not counter surf any longer.
She is such a smart girl and is so eager to please her family that we do not know how we ever got by without her by our sides. She is very moved in to the point that she has her spot on the bed, couch and believe it or not the lap of the person in the recliner. The best part is that upon command she will relinquish any spot which she has made claim too. Starr has zero food aggression and takes most anything our three year old son delivers. Our family is complete now that Starr is a part of it. Her weight and health are perfect. She has gained a few pounds since we got her. We made our first visit to the local Doggie Doo for a little girl time. Starr got a rub down with some oil for a little dry skin, mani/pedi and an ear cleaning. She walked out like the queen of the place. The distance that we have come is amazing. We still think she needs a brother. Happy Holidays UPDATE 9/8/09 - Well this is a little late but i wanted all of the baxer familys to know we are having a blast with this little girl. She has brought love, joy and unmeasurable happiness to our home. She has completed her training and is doing well with continued practice. Starr has really started to show her personality and loves every kid she finds. She will be turning one soon and we are looking forward to many more years. UPDATE 8/27/09 - Starr has fit into our lives so completely it is hard to believe that she has only been with us two going on three months. We weather a few puppy accidents, but house training is complete as is crate training although we have found that she is a good girl when she is not in her crate. Sleeping arrangements have had to be adjusted a few times, it is now understood that she may sleep in bed with us just not on top of us or in the middle of the bed. Her favorite position is along side daddy. She is a real daddy’s girl but loves everyone that she comes in contact with. Doggie training class was a good experience she has come so far with the use of a halti head lead she walks just about any where with little effort, loves to ride in the car. We are planning our first official camping trip over Labor Day weekend Starr has met all of those who are going to be attending. Keep your fingers crossed for us! It took a few weeks for Starr to show some of her true colors, do a little counter surfing and chew a few things that were not hers, but she is a quick study one scolding about eating pizza and she has done very well. Starr loves kids and is still working on some outside anxiety, but is doing much better. People can come and go in the house, but outside on her turf she will bark more than necessary when she thinks some one is coming. It is not an aggression issue we have determined that it is truly fear of what is coming. In recent days we have had scattered conversation of how we think Starr would like to have a Second Chance brother or sister so we are keeping our eye on the site. Our 4 year old 4 legged son Rex is just not big enough to play with Starr like she wants and they still disagree sometimes about who gets what toy. Starr continues to love and adore her family as much as we love her. We are so glad we made the decision to give her a home. UPDATE 7/8/09 - Sorry this update is a little late but Starr is a wonderful addition to our family. Starr has been working on alot and will be attending her first obedience class on this coming monday. Starr has had a few puppy mistakes but doing well. She loves snuggling and playing outside. We had a great Fourth of July. Starr was in a parade with my son's Karate dojo. Did very well and is great with crowds away from home but still needs some reassurance when someone come into the house and/or yard. I want to thank the rescue for helping to make my family complete again after our loss in april we thought it was not going to happen but it has and we are better for it. If it was not for the rescue we would have probably got a boxer from a breeder and a lovely animals like Starr would be waiting for a forever home. Starr has been great with the boys and loves any child she come around. We can not Say Thank you enough. 6/7/09 -Starr ran off with her forever family today! 5/25/09 - Starr has really begun to come around this past week. This morning we packed her and our dog up and went over to a for her first doggy play date with friends of ours. Very quicky we were able to take all 4 dogs off leash in the big fenced in yard. She did very well, we are very impressed. I think Starr would do best with a fenced in yard so she can run around, and she seems to really enjoy other dogs company once she feel comfortable and relaxed. We have been taking Starr on daily walks around our neighborhood and each day she is more relaxed with this. We feel very strongly that Starr IS going to be a great dog for her new owners. She is extremely intelligent and picks up very quickly on new things. We are excited to help Starr find her forever family! 5/17/09 - Starr has recovered perfectly after her spay. Starr really impressed us this morning, she had a intense training session to help her begin to get over her fears and nervousness. She did very well. She walked by many situations that last week had her barking and extremely nervous, we are very proud of her. She does well with positive reinforcement. She finally has began sitting when asked to! This wonderful girl will be a great dog for a loving family who has the time and patience to work with her. She really wants to please us. Starr continues to eat well and is starting to put on some weight. Starr is really looking forward to meeting her forever family!!! 5/10/09 - Starr just got back from her Spay and vet check up. She is a healthy girl and now ready for her forever home. Starr is becoming more comfortable in our home. Starr is doing better with her barking and growling, new people do make her nervous. She continues to be a sweat girl. She needs a forever family who is willing to work with her and be patient with her nervousness. She loves having another dog around to play with. 5/5/09 - Star arrived to CT on Sunday. She is has typical puppy energy. She was very scared at first, but has quickly warmed up to my 7month old boxer mix. Now all they want to do is play with each other. She is very sweet, however does seem to lack basic training. We are beginning to work on sit and will continue with this. She is eating well, seems to be house trained, she has had a few accidents more related to being so nervous. SHe has been growling at all the new noises, sounds and shadows around here. She has been getting better each day. She was not crate trained prior to arriving here, so we are working on this. She sleeps through the night and only makes a few wimpers in her crate. She is a super cuddle bug on the couch and very loving. She will make a great pup for a family with children. I was told she lived with children and other dogs. We do have a cat, and she really does not show much interest in him since he greated her with a nice hiss. She will be going to the vet very soon and i will send update after that! |
