HOW DO I ADOPT?
UPDATE 5/3/10 - I haven't been back in a while to update but i just read casper's clues on the home page and it hit close to home because squirt had been returned so many times to the rescue and he has finally found his forever home.
It will be a year in june when we got him and my life has been forever changed. He is by far the best friend i have ever had... we do everything together :) Daddy got transferred four hours away with work and he's gone monday- friday so me and squirt are always together and i don't think it would be so easy to deal with if he wasn't here. We just bought a house up by the lake with a bigger yard and lots of room to play... So every weekend when i ask him if he wants to go to the lake he starts doing backflips... i have a few videos of it, its hysterical. Last summer he was very uneasy about swimming it took a lot of bribbing, so we are hopeful that this summer he'll jump right in. Especially with the new boat he'l be able to climb right back up instead of trying to hoist him up by his life jacket. Now i've been trying to convince daddy that squirt needs a brother or sister but i think it'll take a little more time for him to come around on that idea. We found out daddy is alle  rgic to dogs... but instead of returning our new best friend we just make daddy suffer :) He knows how close we are and how devestated i would be if i had to get seperated from him ....
It makes me so sad when in hear dogs are being returned... it wasn't untill recently after almost a year that when i left the house i didn't see it in squirts eyes that he was afraid i was never coming back. I think it took him this long to gain the trust that i would eventually be backand i wasn't going to leave him like everyone else did. I'm not going to say it wasn't hard the first couple of months. There is an adjustment period where they learn your schedule and learn your rules. He ran away a few times.. once he was on his runner and he ran so fast after a squirrel his collar snapped in half... i can't believe how strong he is. So we have installed doggie fences at both houses and he learned within ten minutes that he could not leave our sight. He was so hyper that he could knock you off your feet if you weren't paying attention... so it took ALOT of effort to keep him calm when we came home or new people came to the house because he just wanted to kiss everyone right o  n the cheek.... now it is only a rare thing when he jumps on people. he was also aggressive to other dogs.. but again we learned and adapted...  he was just protecting his new mommy and he had to be put in the house for a few minutes to calm down and then he was fine.  Right now he is sitting with his head on my lap giving me sighs when i move the sightest inch because he's still trying to sleep... He makes me laugh when i'm mad at him.... he knows how to work us. He is the smartest most loving yet most protective dog i could ever ask for And i would have never known him if i gave up at the first signs the aggression, extreme hyperness, and running away. I hope everyone can push through the first couple weeks of their new adopted dog.. and look at them as part of their family from the beginning.. i mean if your kid starts acting up at home or in school you can't return them, you learn from their actions and find the problem and fix it.
with lots of hyper love...

UPDATE 7/6/09 - I can't believe he's been here only a month... we feel like we've had him forever. He's the best dog we could ask for. He's doing great in obedience school learning all sorts of new tricks like rolling over and crawling. We think he's top of his class but don't tell the other students!
This past weekend for fourth of July we went camping and he loved it! He was digging in the dirt and sitting by the fire... took him a while to figure out the tent but he got it!
The big treat was going out on the lake... and trying to learn how to swim. He does well but gets scared and wants to get back in the boat! He'll get used to it. He saw his little boxer girlfriend Vegas swimming and he thought he should give it a try too!
My sister will be watching him next week while we are on vacation i can't wait to see the look on his face when we return and he knows that he can come back home!
He gets compliments all the time about how handsome he is! Nobody can figure out what he is but they know he's good looking!
We are so pleased with this good boy and are enjoying every second we have with him!

UPDATE 6/5/09 - Quirt went home with his new Mom and Dad today.  The transition went very well.  Quirt was all excited when they came.  He just loves everyone.  We will miss him.  But I know that he is going to a great home and he will have lots of fun.  He jumped right in the car and didn't look back.  The house was very quite after he left. no more whoo whooing with him and Myah she will miss him and so won't we but knowing that he was going to a great place felt good.

Here I am Quirt the man!  My sister Myah and I love playing ball. You can see she thinks she's the boss.  NOT! But, because I am the Gentleman that I am,  I let her think she's the boss,  I let her have her way, You know how That Goes!!  I love all the girls I live with! We have a great time running in the yard. At night we all get to snuggle on the nice blanket and hang out with "the family".  I love the outdoors and basking in the sun.  My foster dad loves me to be his co-pilot and we go for lots of rides.  He says I am such a good boy in the car, and I love thoses rides. It's just us guys, hanging out. I am learning lots of things. I am house trained now, and I get lots of love and praise.  I sit, down, stay, and always come when I am called.  (keep those treats coming!) I am doing so much better when it comes to jumping on people, but sometimes I just want to give those guy hugs.   Are You that special person that can make room in your heart for me?? I'll be your forever best friend!

Squirt (we call him Quirt)  He is too classey to have a name like Squirt.  What will people think! He is settling in great.  He is an amazing guy.  He sits outside all day with my husband while he is working in the yard and he never whines or cries for his attention.  He just watches him, plays or sleeps. He is not a barker unless someone goes by. He barks, wags his tail then stops.  He really has settled down.  He is very good at entertaining himself if there is no one to play with.  I can't let Him and Myah stay together all the time because she just won't quit.  She will just keep playing till she drops, she is so rough with him.  He is definately not the alpha dog.  He rolls on his back when Scarlet ( my GSD) plays with him.  I don't know if her size intimidates him or what because she likes him and would not hurt him. Sage ( the little Sheltie) is definately the boss over him.  He lets her do whatever she wants, She bosses him and he just backs away.  He doesn't understand, after all he is just trying to be friends. Mark (my husband) calls him "my boy" now and they are inseperable.  Wherever Mark is, Quirt wants to be.  Quirt watches his every move. We have  permisson to take him and the girls into a big hay field to run.  They have such a blast, when you call him he comes running.  He is so well behaved.  He loves to be with us and he loves romping with all his sisters.  There is alot of flooding in the field and they just raced through the water and the fields and have a great time.  He listens very well and he is a love.  His house manners are great, he is not a "counter surfer."  Mark made some eggs and left them on the table and went into the other room. I said to Mark "I can't believe you thought they would still be there when you got back." But he never even tried to get them.  He is a wonderful boy and a pleasure to have around.  He still thinks he owns the couch and we are trying to break him of staying off.  But when he gets excited he still can't control himself from jumping up there. He still jumps up on people.  We are working on that.  His house breaking is going well.  We did have problems the first week but he seems to have his schedule down and he hasn't had any accidents. He loves to sit by your feet when you watch television and he responds to commands well. Quirt would love to meet a gentle loving family he could calls his own.  He deserves to be forever loved.

4/7/09 -
Squirt arrived Sunday.  Thank you all who did the transport.  He settled in quickly and was quiet during the ride home.  He is far more beautiful than his pictures.  My husband noted, as soon as he saw him, what a handsome boy he is.  He is such a love and really wants to please.  My girls accepted him with no problem and he seems to love anyone he meets, human or otherwise.  He loves to play and he and Myah love to wrestle.  He actually is much more gentle with her than she is with him, and he is twice her size.  My husband has really taken to him, and is out of work right now, so he spends hours just loving on him and playing.  He loves being outside while my husband is working in the yard and my husband is dying to take him in the truck as his co-pilot. He's already mentioned how much fun Squirt is going to be on the beach.  Someone is going to be very happy adopting him!  If you think of yourself as a "fun loving" active person Squirt is the right dog for you!! He is very strong and athletic. He's one of those dogs that just loves life and he looks almost as if he is smiling all the time.  His tail never stops wagging.  He is doing great with all his commands is is very treat motivated.  He needs work on his jumping on people.  I really bellieve if someone is interested in Agility Training, he would be a blast!

4/6/09 -
Squirt arrived yesterday. The poor guy had a long day. That did not stop his excitement in seeing any moving thing: dog, human, toys, treats. What a beautiful boy. His pictures do not do him justice. He loves everyone. His tail never stops wagging. He is very atheletic and took my husband Mark for a walk. He does try to please. He will sit, and down. Stay is just too hard yet. He has so much to see and so many places to explore. The ride home was quite. He whines when he first goes into his crate but he settles in nicely after a few minutes. We tried to segregate everyone at first but he was too excited to stay away from the girls and the girls too excited to stay away from him. They all did well together. Alot of rough housing between him and Myah. They are going to need alot of yard time together to slow the energy level down. He is going to be a great companion for someone who loves having fun.

3/23/09 -
Squirt came to us yesterday filled with energy!! It took lots of time running and playing but he is now finally at my feet sleeping. He is dying to learn, but doesn't have any real training as of yet, and is very motivated with treats. He will sit, lay down, and knows to bring his ball back to you and drop it for at least a half hour of fetch. Squirt is a typical puppy, just big, and doesn't know his strength. He has quickly become my lap dog, but doesn't hesitate to tear off after a rolling toy at any point. He is quite velcro, and is following me everywhere, right on my heels. Squirt may be too much for small children for now, but a great playmate to romp with older children. He is playful with dogs big enough to hold their own, and I haven't introduced him to my cats yet. With the right leadership, Squirt will fit in with almost any active family. He has a lot of love to give and is waiting to form a bond with his forever family!

3/18/09 -
Squirt was neutered today and did well he is being a very good boy in the crate relaxing and staying calm for me.  He was returned due to his energy level and the fact that there is a 2 yr old in the house being knocked around.  He will be moved to the Binghamton area Sunday where he will finish relaxing and hopefully get some doggy manners!  He is a fun loving young pup with lots of energy and love.  More to come from his foster mom after Sunday but get your apps in now he wont be around long!!!

8/12/08 - Squirt went on his first public outing today and couldn't get enough of the people!  He wanted tointeract and meet everyone he could.  He was a bit unsure of the leash and how to walk with it but I am sure with practice he will do just fine.  I dropped the leash and he followed me everywhere that I went and wouldn't let me out of his sight.  He seems like a very "spunky" little guy looking for adventure.  After his adventures though he looks for a lap to snuggle up in and sleep in.  He is very playful with my other dogs and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything but the steps!  He will sit and cry until you help him up or down -- CHICKEN!  We are working on the house training bit.  He is being crate trained but willwhimper for a few minutes because he rather be with you.  If you arelookingforsomeoneto share adventures and then crash with you afterwards, then Squirt is the dog for you!  Won't you consider this adventurous little guy who is looking for some love?

7/28/08 - The Finding Nemo Crew arrived earlier today from Ohio. Accordingtotheirpaperwork they were surrendered to the shelter on 6/26/08 at 4 weeks old. That would make them 8 weeks old now. They have been vaccinated (puppy vaccines and kennel cough) and dewormed several times already. The pups are pretty big for their age. Not necessarily very tall but short, squatty, solid little babies! They look like they have some mastiff in their heritage (both their builds and coloring). Some of the smaller pups resemble labs. Maybe Dad was a Mastiff/Lab mix? Guess we will never know! What I do know is they are fat, friendly
and CUTE as can be. Pictures will be coming very soon. You better gets those applications in as they pretty babies won't be around long!
