| UPDATE 7/6/10 - Shena....what a girl! Great dog! Only good stuff...My mother in law, Kathy says Shena hit the jackpot when she found us..but truth be told.....We hit the jackpot when we found Shena! Enough said! UPDATE 5/25/10 - Shena is the sweetest boxer! Every day she delights us with her antics. These hot summerlike days curtail her outdoor activities. We play indoors in the air conditioning! She makes us laugh every day! She only recently discovered the koi in our small koi pond and the resident bull frog. Looking forward to taking her swimming this summer. UPDATE 4/20/10 - Shena...took her on a road trip to Virginia. She was great. Her little buddy, Beau(our papillon), was equally great. Right now she is enjoying a treat. She loves toys. We have a dog toy graveyard for those with holes and missing squeakies. Hopefully Paul will stitch the holes closed, so we can let her enjoy all of the toys. Her newest favorite is a shark! She snores sooo loud...Our bed vibrates. We really think shes aces! She's in great health! Well rounded socially with animals and humans. We keep her crate door open, because she let's herself in to nap. Occasionally our little black and white cat, Havana seeks refuge in Shena's crate! UPDATE 3/21/10 - It didn't take but 5 minutes for the furniture delivery guys to leave that Shena adopted the brand new recliner as her new favorite place to relax!(We covered it with a blanket) Oh, and the new couch has a great fabric texture that makes for a great rubbing/massager for Miss Shena's needs.(It's now covered with a sheet)So yes, she is right at home! We had a nice long walk today...and the kitchen tile floor was the perfect place for Miss Shena to belly flop, paws out for a cool off nap! We love her! A big shout out to Julie, Cyndi, Grace, Liz...and all the other volunteers(I don't know by name) who go the extra mile to find the dogs loving homes. Our Shena is the greatest! UPDATE 2/21/10 - Shena is soooo much fun! She had the opportunity to meet my friends lab, Finn. They romped, rolled, frolicked and wiped each other out in her fenced in yard. Shena is about 20 lbs less than Finn, but she would initiate all play. She's great at Fetch. Every family and friend that has met her tells us how lucky we are to have such a great dog. She sleeps with us and snores occasionally. She is very smart and is the "teachers pet" at dog obedience class, and she gets picked on often because she's such a great learner. We are proud pet parents! Way to go Shena! UPDATE 1/19/10 - Shena is a a delightful addition to my fur family. She is very playful and quite a love. She really enjoys attention. Beau, my 12 lb. papillon lets her know he's top dog (10yrs old)...they get along quite nicely for the size disparity! She loves to take all the toys out one at a time. She flings them in the air and races around the house. It's very funny to watch her! She's quite spoiled...Obedience training starts on the 30th of January. We had a trip to the vet for diarrhea. He put her on antibiotics for a few days...and we changed her food, and this seemed to help tremendously. We are truly enjoying her and are so happy to have her in our New Jersey home. She's truly a Jersey Girl now! 12/22/09 - I went home today!!! 9/21/09 - Shena took a little road trip with us this weekend and enjoyed being a country girl. She loved running through the woods, but the moment I called her she came flying back to me. She loved rolling in the grass and soaking up the sun. Shena has been gaining weight & looks very healthy now - she loves her food, but does have a tendency to counter surf if left unsupervised. She definitely knows the meaning of, "No! and will even acknowledge her wrongdoing by putting herself in her crate and is perfecting her "Woe is me!" look. She loves being with her people & is an all around sweetheart of a girl with lots of personality who will fit in well with just about any family, but I think she would especially love to be part of an active family with kids. 9/14/09 - Shena has been with us for one week now & is settling in very nicely. She is a gentle, sweet girl who is always happy to go for a walk or a ride in the car - as long as she is with her people she is very content! This little girl has shown herself to be wonderful with kids and people of all ages. Yesterday we attended my son's soccer game & Shena was happy to let kids of all sizes pet her - right down to toddlers who poked a bit too much - Shena did not mind in the least & actually seems drawn to little ones. A friend of mine works with a training club here in NJ and evaluates therapy dogs - he met Shena over the weekend and thought she has the potential to be a wonderful therapy dog or Canine Good Citizen based upon her sweet disposition & gentle nature. Shena also gets along with nicely with other dogs as well as cats - she and my cat have become buddies & share the bed at night. There really is not one negative thing I can say about this little girl - she is house trained, affectionate, walks very nicely on her leash, gets along with all other animals and loves to be with her family. She is prettier than her pictures show - many people have commented on her pretty brindle markings. I'll try to get some nicer pictures soon! I can't believe this sweet little girl will be with us for very long - she is quite a catch! 9/9/09- Shena arrived yesterday after a very long trip up from Mississippi and a week or so of being bounced around with another rescue group who kindly brought this girl north along with 32 other dogs who were all living together in a trailer. Shena has had at least one litter of pups but has been spayed and is up to date on her shots and vetted. Despite what must have been unpleasant living conditions, she is all Boxer wiggles and I was told she loves to be with people of all ages, which certainly seems to be the case. She is accustomed to being with other dogs & we played a little yesterday with a neighbor's Boxer - Shena enjoyed frolicking with her fellow Boxer buddy. She has met my cat and is not aggressive in the least. Her date of birth is unknown. but estimated to be about 2 years old - some people have thought she may even be younger. More to come on this very sweet, affectionate girl as we get to know her. She is getting a good pampering today at the groomer (thanks to fellow SCBR volunteer Tracy!) & I'm sure will feel much prettier once she is squeaky clean. |
