| UPDATE 4/6/10 - We have had six months with Scooby and we believe it has been a good match for both of us. We realize since Scooby's been with us that he has bonded with us both equally and we couldn't be happier. He is a gentle, quiet soul and is learning how to play and run around the house.
We will be going on Vacation next month and this will be our first separation since we adopted him. We choose Camp Bow Wow because it has a program that keeps the dogs busy off and on all day. They will check him out and see what group of dogs he will fit best in and have sleeping quarters that have bed cots and crates for those that prefer either one. We will be able to watch Scooby while we are away and that is important to us also. He will be going to the camp for three days over the next month for a complete day each time, so he will be familiar with the place. Scooby is learning how to play with toys and us! He lives in a very quiet environment and home and it's been great to see him slowly come out of his shell and just be Scooby........a gentle soul looking for acceptance, companionship and love. UPDATE 3/8/10 - Hi everyone, Scooby couldn't wait any longer to report that he is off Predisone and for right now I think he is feeling fine and will have a checkup in May, so lets keep our fingers, legs and anything else crossed that he is healthy! Scooby goes almost everywhere we go and enjoys riding with us. We are giving him treats when we approach a ticket booth or drive-thru since he started to growl and it seems to be working. He also growls if someone comes up to the car, so we're socializing him more.I have gotten lazy in the past month due to the weather being so cold or raining, so I've started walking him again. Scooby sleeps at the foot of our bed each night and we are content with that. He would like to have more food but I want to keep his weight down for his health so we continue give him the same amount each day......yes! He has those big brown beautiful eyes and he does beg, but we're trying not to bend!!!!! We know we have only had him for a short while and has had one health issue after another that would make any dog be acting not himself, but I do think that this is who he is, a calm and gentle soul that will do just fine with an old couple like us. So, we thank all of you (volunteers) for what you do and continue to do for our furry friends UPDATE 1/15/10 - Scooby here! I am now over three months in my new adopted home and I'm showing a little more of myself. I'm running and playing more, so they think I'm feeling more relaxed and secure. I haven't seen a Vet in a month and I have been off meds for two weeks........yah! I'm on a new diet called California Natual Herring/sweet potato, (members in SCBR suggested other foods) so for now we are going to wait and see if my scratching will decrease. We'll give it at least a month before making any judgements. I no longer sleep in my crate, cause my Mom was leaving the crate unlocked, so now........I sleep in a queen size bed!!!! I heard that they are storing the crate in the other bedroom for future use.......not sure what that means but I am no longer staying in a crate while their gone either, especially when they don't leave tissue boxes, newspaper and slippers around. The last time I only put a couch pillow on the floor.....THAT'S IT! UPDATE 12/19/09 - Scooby graduated from obedience class last week, he accomplished all that was asked of him and was friendly with everyone in his class. So now we need to continue with all that we have learned because it is very important in our relationship with Scooby. Our sweet boxer has been treated for tapeworms after finishing with an ear infection, so you can see that he continues to have health issues, but he is getting the best of care and always will. We have left Scooby alone in the house several times for short durations and he has done great. Scooby goes in his crate at night on his own and we leave his gate open. However, he crawls into our bed around 4am and warms us up with his presence. We got a animal welfare license plate for our car and I got a (I love my boxer)hanger and put it in our car window........ looks like we're hooked on this guy. Will close for now and continue to share with other member on the web. UPDATE 12/6/09 - Scooby saw his first snow this morning when he went out to pee! He wouldn't come in until he had to be drag in before he ate up all the snow in our back yard. Guess this is an indication of whats to come, so I need to buy him a blanket and bootys for Chirstmas! We will be going to our last OBT class on 11/8/09 and will send a copy of the certificate as soon as we get ours. By the way he did great and I just need to continue with the training because it has made a difference. I finally have a dog that doesn't pull me all over the place or jump up on people, so OBT is "very" important if not necessary!!!! Scooby's health is much better and we are so grateful that he is so loving and he has given my husband a real up lift in his life since he retired several years ago, so thank you "volunteers" for all you do and for those that are fostering, our hats are off to you! Joan and Scooby UPDATE 11/10/09 - Scooby had his first Vet check since we adopted him on 16th of October. Unfortunately he was found to be Giardia positive but showed no signs of being sick, so we were grateful for catching it early. He was found to have an ear infection which showed up on his two week recheck Vet visit. He is receiving skin treatment that gets put in his food and between his shoulders. The bare spots on his legs, elbows and feet did not clear up with the anti-biotic spray,so for now we'll concentrate on getting him healthy. We have one more Vet visit for his last shot and the next will be in January for his heartworm check to see if he is negative, which I pray he is. Poor guy, he's gone through so much and yet remains so affectionate and loveable. He did very well on his first obedience training and got along with all that was going on in the class. The hardest thing for Scooby was to go down on all fours, even the trainer wasn't able to figure out how to do this but half way is fine for now. He is doing great on the leash and I take him out for a walk twice a day around our neighborhood. Thanks to all the volunteers for all you have done, doing and continue to do for our wonderful boxers! Scooby has had nothing but love and devotion shown to him since he entered SCBR. we will do our part to give him the same. UPDATE 10/15/09 - Scooby has adjusted to our routine very well and has slept through "every" night in his crate and no snoring. Scooby has a new holter instead of a collar because we are older (senior citizens) and we need to keep our arms in our sockets, so this is working much better for all of us! Scooby will be going to the Vets this Friday to be checked all over,so wish us well! We will be going to obedience training on the 27TH of October and to the Vet's this Friday and he'll be getting a bath at "wash your dog yourself store" in Windham. We'll let yu know how things are progressing after his Vet check, for now we couldn't have asked for a sweeter dog and to thank the foster mom "JOANNA" for all she has done for Scooby! 10/11/09 - I was adopted today! 7/30/09 - As I am writing this Scooby is in his crate sleeping more soundly than I have ever seen a dog sleep. He isn't moving or twitching. and when someone walks by he does not even lift his head to look at them. Scooby is exhausted. After two LONG months of heartworm treatments and constant crating Scooby is finally well and allowed to run and PLAY again. He has been forced to watch the other dogs run and play in front of his crate without ever joining in. Today all that changed. Scooby definitely likes other dogs. He played with two of the boys here and had a blast. He ran and they chased him. He play bowed and jumped around. I have never seen him that happy. After a while he would get so overcome with exitement that he would just spin wildly in circles pouncing at the other dogs. I swear he looked like he was laughing. I know I was. So I am happy to announce that Scooby is finally ready for his new forever home. Or he will be after his nap. 6/24/09 - Scooby has had his first heartworm treatment and has been spending all his time crated. While being treated for heartworm a dog can not run or play because the dead worms can move around and kill them. Most dogs are very unhappy being confined but not Scooby. He is just a happy sweet boxer who seems very happy to have regular meals and a soft blanket in his crate. He does love toys though and drags half of them out of the toy box every time he is out of his crate. He wants to throw them in the air and chase after them but when I tell him no he lays down and just chews on them. About the only other thing he is allowed to do is go for rides. He makes a wonderful copilot. Scooby is happy to sit in the seat and look out the window. Once he is done with his heartworm treatment it won't take long for him to find a home. A dog this sweet deserves a home of his own. 6/5/09 - Scooby had the first part of his heartworm treatment yesterday & will get the final part in about 4 weeks. If all goes well with his treatment he should be ready to go home Mid-July. More updates soon from his foster home! 6/2/09 - Scooby came to my house a little over a week ago and has made himself right at home. This is my first foster and he has been the best foster I could ever ask for. He loves to lay on the couch and cuddle with me and my daughter. At night he sleeps in bed with me and I have to say he is a bed hog!! He loves to go for rides. I have taken him many places with me and he is always on his best behavior and will lay in the backseat. He does stay in his kennel while I’m at work and will whine for a few minutes but then will stop and lay down. After a couple days of being at my house I left him out of his kennel while I ran to the store and again he was on his best behavior. I can’t imagine why anybody would want to give Scooby up!! 5/22/09 - Scooby arrived today from one of our favorite shelters. He is heartworm positive so he will be starting his treatment soon. Scooby will need about 6-8 weeks of treatment and quiet time before he will be able to go to his new home. Watch for more updates from his foster home soon! |
