| 3/21/10 - A very sad family surrendered Sassy today to find another home. The landlord said she had to go. Updates soon from her new foster home. UPDATE 12/20/09 - Sassy has fit in very well. She is a wonderfully smart dog. She is doing so so with our neighbors dogs, we have only had one instance of barking and growling. She travels in the car very well, which was a good thing since we had a 3 hour trip home. The only accident she has had was on the first night, since then we know her signs for when it is time. Sassy likes to drag her big blanket around with her when it is crate time. She is so funny, she drags it out of the crate and brings it to the couch to lay on When we first brought her home, she had a few patches of very dry skin,a few fur less patches, and I found fleas on her.We have since taken care of those issues. I think she may have been having allergic reactions to the food she was on. We changed her food to a local pet supply brand that is fantastic. It has much more meat and veggies and less fillers in it. We are in the process of finding an obedience training class for her. We should hear back from a few in the next couple of days. My family and I can not thank you enough for letting us adopt this fantastic bundle of joy. She has brought great joy to our home. 12/13/09 - Sassy has been adopted! 12/3/09 - Hey, it's me, Sassy (AKA: Miss Sassy Frass as my Foster Mom likes to call me)! I'm still chilling here in Maine just waiting for my real home to come along. I've completely settled down and got the hang of things and learned I am not allowed to be the Queen Bee, that's my parent(s) job. :) I LOVE dinner time and when I heard the can opener the other day I about died & started WOO-WOO'ing to my foster Mom to hurry up already. See normally we get dry food, this was a special dinner time & boy was I an EXTRA HAPPY GIRL! My FM just laughed at me, HUMPH! I just woo-woo'ed with my chin held high until that dish was down for me to eat. I have also showed my more playful side since the new guy Tyler showed up. I think he is one hot babe & I bow down to him & pounce my front feet at him, trying to get him to play. Then I bounce around him like a nut, but he just ignores me. He seems to like FM better. How insulting! I am SUPER good in my crate & never make a peep when I am in there, so I would be okay in a condo or apartment setting where you may have to crate a girl like me. I do still like to roughly chase the kitties at times, but will leave them when FM tells me to. I love going for car rides too & am just a great girl. I'm hoping to be in my new home for the holidays as I hear there are LOTS of yummy treats cooking at this time of year! Don't miss out on me, I'm waiting! Love, Sassy 8/17/09 - Sassy has been here about 6 weeks and is doing great! She has not had any problems here with me and understands that she is not the alpha in the house, I am. She loves going for car rides and is very sweet and such a nice girl. I do let her snuggle on the couch with me now, ONLY if I invite her and when/if she starts to abuse the treat (ex: giving my boxer Simon a grumble about sharing the couch), then she loses the couch benefit right away. I think she is getting it more lately though as she does enjoy the cuddle time when she has earned it. Sassy gets along great with Simon and will play "chewy face" with him. She doesn't seem to be big on wild and rough doggie play, so Simon has learned to chill out at play time and accept her more mild play games with him. Sassy was doing okay with the kittens in the house, but after she recently got a smack on her nose when she cornered one of them a little too playfully for their taste, she has become pretty fixated on them. For this reason I am going to say she needs to go to a home without kitties. Sassy is ready to go home and still waiting for her new pal to call! 7/5/09 - Sassy moved to my foster home last Thursday as she was showing a lot of dominance this time with her original foster home's daughter (not wanting to do what told to do, snapping). Sassy is a dominant girl and if given the chance will take over a home. She needs a true pack leader and a house with everyone on the same page too (watch Ceasar Milan's show & other trainers like him). This means not being allowed on your beds, not being allowed on the couch, eating after you do, not being allowed to pull you down the street or walk out the door first, etc. Also look up NILIF training (Nothing In Life Is Free), that's where the dogs work for everything they get (treats or affection). It's all easy enough things to do, but you have to be consistent and firm with a dog like Sassy that wants to be the leader. She is slowly settling in here and getting use to the routines. She has briefly met my boxer boy, Simon, a few times and seems to be fine with him (he's very submissive and playful/goofy). I think because of her dominance issues, she will need a home that is firm, consistent and if there are kids in the home, they need to be teenagers or up that also understand this type of training. She would also be fine as an only dog or with a submissive dog that is not going to challenge her for the top dog part of the pack of the house. Poor Sassy has been moved around quite a bit in her life already. She just needs stability, structure and love. Are you able to give Sassy that home? 6/26/09 - Sadly Sassy has returned to rescue after having some issues in the home that adopted her. We will be giving her time to settle back into her foster home and de-stress before we decide what type of a home she needs this time. More updates soon. 5/24/09 - Sassy was adopted! 5/19/09 - Sassy is continuing to do very well here aside from her 'interest' in our cat. (nothing that wasn't fixable with a baby gate to give the cat a safe place) She is so lovable. She wookie talks, she's silly, happy, and is doing super well with the kids. It's hard to believe she is four years old. She is very much like our previous foster, Gabby, who was half her age. She is a total attention hog, if you allow her to be. Of course, it helps that our boxer is so laid-back, we're surprised he hasn't slip into a coma. They are doing great together. She shakes terribly when she first gets in the car to go for a ride, but I would be the same way if I had the long transport she did last Saturday. Once in the car, she is an excellent rider. She is not gobbling down food the way she did the first two days here. She must have finally figured out she wasn't going to be hungry anymore. Sassy is protective, but so obedient! This is the sweetest little girl! She give little kisses and loves to play in the house. Outside is just a little too unfamiliar and scary still. She is a very gentle girl and loves to snuggle. We took her to get her weight and she is now a perfect 60 lbs. While at the vet's office, we met two labs, one senior female and one very young male, and six new people. Everyone loved her so much. Sassy was a perfect lady with everyone. Sassy is a smaller boxer which makes her very easy to handle. Today we are going to do our nails and maybe, when she sees how relaxed our boy is about having his done, she will think it's not so bad. Keep your paws crossed! LOL 5/16/09 - Sassy has arrived. She is being very clingy with me right now. She is a very small girl for four years old. Her paperwork says that she is around 52 pounds, but she is on the thin side. She follows me everywhere and needs to be touching me as much as possible. She had something to eat and a cookie. Sassy arrived with all of her vet work and the food that was so kindly sent my way, which speaks to the commitment of all of the SCBR volunteers that were involved with this rescue. I will give her a tubby tomorrow and keep you all up to date, but this looks to be a very promising foster! |
