| UPDATE 12/13/09 - We are so happy to have added Rory to our family. She is such a sweetheart. Our hopes that she and our boxer Reggie would be good friends has been far exceeded as I am certain that they are in love. Of course we get the occassional sibling rivalry when one gets more attention than the other but they constantly wrestle, play tug of war, do boxer circles in the back yard or just cuddle together. She walks better on the leash than Reggie. But she does think that ever rug, couch or our bed was designed just for her to lay on so that's taking some work. She will do anything for food and sometimes we need to watch as she will steal Reggie's food before he gets a chance to eat it. We are working on her weight as the vet said we should try and lower her cholesterol as she has some deposits in her left eye. Plus, poor little girl has a little trouble fitting through our doggie door! Everyone told us, don't get a second dog, it's going to be too much work. Well, she fits so
well
into our family that she almost makes things easier. We are so happy to have her with us. And we have continued to add to our family, this time with a baby! We just know that Reggie and Rory will be a great big brother/sister team to help us take care of the little one. 10/25/09 - I was adopted today! 9/26/09 - Rory is patiently waiting for her forever family to come along. Rory is such a great dog and has great manners. I have been taking her walking with me several nights a week. We walk on the main road (Rory on leash) until we get to a farm road (see picture). Rory is great on leash and once we get to the farm road I allow her to go off leash. She is super food motivated, therefore I just pack a little baggie of milkbones in my pocket to entice her to listen well. She has done wonderfully! We have even seen deer and chipmunks and she is interested but does not chase them. If you are interested in a sweet dog who is an easy keeper and trained well please consider Rory!!! 8/26/09 - Rory is still with us and doing wonderfully. She acts like she owns the place and has really found a niche for herself here. We all love her very much -- especially my two children. She particularly enjoys dinner time! The boys always sneak her treats under the table and she waits for anything to accidentally drop on the floor. As far as her tumor goes, I cannot say that I have noticed any change it the size, shape or consistency. She has been a great dog these past few months. There's just nothing to say bad about this girl! 5/6/09 - Rory is doing well, no complaints!! She is a wonderful dog and companion. I am working on getting a few pounds off of her at the moment. She has quite the appetite!! About 3-4 weeks ago she ended up with an ear infection (yeast), but it has since resolved. She was very good about letting me clean her ears and with her appetite giving pills was easy. I clean her ears out about once every other week now just for maintenance purposes. No recurrences. The previous issue with her stealing food has gotten so much better since she has been with us. She listens very well and knows how to sit and go down. She has never had an accident in the house, nor does she jump up on us or my children. Rory stays loose in the house with my boxer and does fine. I do, however, confine them to a small area. Again, she is a great girl and waiting for a forever family to love her!! 3/30/09 - She is doing amazingly in our household. The mud has been flying everywhere with two boxers running in and out of the house non-stop! She is such a sweet girl though. Every morning when my husband leaves for work she will climb into bed with me and snore soooo loudly!! She seems to really know sit and down commands and walks very well on her leash. She has quit going to work with me and she is allowed to roam one end of the house with my boxer. We have had a few incidences of her getting into the trash but now I just close the bathroom door and she is fine. She is a great girl and will make someone a very sweet companion! 3/19/09 - Rory is doing great so far in our house. She gets along perfectly with my boxer, but is suspicious of our cat. Rory has never shown any aggression towards the cat, but just doesn't really understand why she lives in our house! She is eating well, a little too well; she is a touch overweight, but we are working on it. She seems to be pretty well mannered except for one thing -- counter surfing! We baby gate off the kitchen when we are gone and make sure things are picked up at night. Rory is otherwise allowed free roam of the house. She has had no accidents in the house and seems to be able to hold it for an amazing amount of time. She rides in the car well. No complaints! She's adorable! Rory was however, diagnosed with a Hamartoma. This is a benign tumor which may increase in size but otherwise be harmless to her. She was seen at her previous DVM who biopsied and diagnosed the tumor. That DVM also recommended surgical removal of the tumors. She has one large one on the top of her head, another between her eyes and one on her right lumbar/flank area (which I am assuming is the same). Basically at this point the tumor is a cosmetic issue not a life threatening issue. She is otherwise healthy and happy. |
