UPDATE 6/04/10 - Meena has been with us for almost a year, but we only adopted her on December 4, 2009 due to medical problems the vet felt she was unadoptable. Meena is much better with other dogs, but some dogs she just wants to go after and she is also still quite head-shy. During the last six months, Meena has actually slept almost through the night on several occasions much to our surprise. She is a very active dog and needs lots of exercise. Meena and Mojo have not had any disagreements in months and drink from each other's bowl of water with no problems which is a big adjustment. Meena is still crated when we are not at home which is only three days a week now as my hours at work have been cut and I am glad to be home more. We go to the beach almost every day depending on the weather and she loves to run and go in the water which was a complete surprise to me. Meena loves to chase seagulls, but I try to discourage her from chasing Eider Ducks and sea birds. It has been a  mazing to watch her progress and it has only been lately that she will snuggle on the couch with us. We never forced the issue and let her come to us on her own. Meena loves to be outside, but does not like the rain so I get wet while holding the umbrella so she can do her business and stay dry. We love her and just want her to be secure and happy. Meena's health has improved. She just got her HW/LD tests which did show a slight positive Lime Disease reading, but we got her the Lime Disease Shots as recommended by our vet as she had Lime Disease when we first got her and I wanted to give her all the protection possible with the increase in ticks this year. Meena's obedience training went well, but she is just now beginning to come when called as she is very head strong, but not as head strong as I am. Meena loves ice cubes and will immediately sit when offered a "cube". Meena does still have a few allergies, but most of them are under control due to a process of elimination of foods  , etc.
In July, Meena will get her booster and rabies shot.

UPDATE 3/04/10 - Meena has improved immensely since she first joined our family. Last night was her final obedience training session and she is finally starting to listen and come when called. She loves to chase the squirrels and the ducks that come into our yard and her hearing seems to fail then. Meena hasn't been on any long trips yet, but we plan a two week vacation to Michigan in April/May. She loves to go for rides and walks so I'm sure she will be fine on the trip. As for getting along with other dogs except Mojo, that is still an issue but she is getting better about it slowly. I use a gentle leader on her when we go for walks and that really helps. Have had a urinalysis done and so far no more UTI's. My personal belief is that with all the walking we do it has helped improve her muscle control as she doesn't seem to be "leaking" as much, but she is still getting up at least twice in the night to go out. This will never change. she still has allergies, but most are under control. Meena loves to share my chair with me and just keeps walking around it until I tell her okay. Then she jumps up behind me and snuggles down. She can be a little pill when she wants to be, but is really a sweet girl most of the time. Meena is very good about going in her crate now and settles right down with her kong and snacks, but when she hears me come home she starts barking and is very anxious to be let out.

UDPATE 2/02/10 - Meena has settled in nicely and goes in her crate with no problem, but she is anxious to get out. She is only crated from the time my husband leaves for work until the time I get home from work (I only work part-time and leave before he does in the a.m.). She is now attending obedience classes and has come a long way with her manners and alpha personality. She gets along much better with Mojo, no "arguments" and doesn't bother the cat, Zoe'. She was checked last month for UTI and so far, so good - no problemsand will get checked again in three months. Meena does get cold easily as she is a small Boxer and very lean so when she goes to bed we cover her with a blankie, but if she gets cold in the night she comes to my side of the bed to let her under the covers and she snuggles right down. Meena loves to go for rides and she also loves to go for walks on the beach and so to ward off the cold she got a custom made double lined coat from Horse Creations. It fits her  so nice and she doesn't seem to mind wearing it.

UPDATE 1/3/10 - Meena has made steady improvement getting along with her fur brother, but not with other dogs.  So far the only trip she has been on has been to NH and she did not get along with the dog there (a Aussie). She loves to ride along when my husband plows snow, but does not like the cold. However, she does like to run in the snow and chase the squirrels and birds as long as it is not too cold. She would rather curl up in front of the wood stove and only go out when necessary. Meena has been getting plenty of exercise until recently when the weather turned windy and cold. Her new coat from Horse Creations has arrived, so she should be warm and ready for walking on colder days. Her health problems are chronic and will not improve as they are caused by a birth defect. A condition of this problem means getting up to take her out in the night two or three times. Meena still has allergies which affect her feet and ears. I have changed her over to California Natural and remo  ved all beef from her diet which seems to help with the allergies. Meena will start obedience training on January 13th. She is a very smart little girl, but needs steady, constant reminding about jumping up, but has come a long way in a short time. Meena will also be going for a medical recheck and a follow-up urine analysis every three to six months as her condition makes her more prone to UTI's. She has been for an ultrasound in Portland and the doctor there found she had a heart murmur, but he says she should live a long life. We love Meena and she returns that love a thousand fold. We are very fortunate she came to live with us and we will give her the best medical care available

12/4/09 - Meena has been adopted!

Last week FM took my follow-up urine sample in to be test for the UTI. I still have some protein in it and the vet said for her to watch for blood or frequent urination. Well, FM now has a new phone and a new remote, but not a new very old Raggedy Ann doll. She was not very happy with me, I gave her lots of wiggles and kisses - no luck! FM left me out of my crate for a couple of hours while she ran some errands, but the fence was up which is pretty high. However, I can jump like a deer and over I went. I get bored and need to be watched as I can be very mischievious. So now it's back in the crate for me every time there is no one home and I don't like my crate. Maybe later on FM will give me another chance?

08/18/09 -
Well, Sunday FM gave me a bath, cleaned my ears and clipped my nails and told me I was "ready to go", but no one came for me. I was disappointed, so FM gave me some frozen yogurt and that made me feel a little better. Today is my last day on meds for lime disease. I am very good about taking meds if you just rap them in some cheese or turkey. I am still having an issue with my feet itching and being red, but it is better.
When FM asks us if we want to go for a walk, I start talking to her (this is a new trait) and it must be funny because she laughs at me. We went for a long walk on the beach early this morning becasue FM said it's going to be really hot today. I'm hoping this means we will be getting more frozen yogurt later. I am doing much better getting along with my foster fur brother (no fights) although I do like to be dominant. Things I like are ice cubes, treats of any kind, frozen yogurt and walks. I don't really like my bath, but I do feel much better afterward and I DO NOT like my crate! I am very good about going in with a treat and my kong. Since I've been in the PortaPet crate I have not escaped, but I will tell you, I have tried! So, I am here waiting for you to take me home and FM says I'm welcome to stay until you come and get me. See your soon. Meena

Meena here. Yesterday I finished my antibiotics for the UTI and FM took a urine sample in to the vet today and it was good! Then the vet called and we got a ride to town to pick up my doxycycline for the lime disease which I started on today for 28 days. I was chewing and licking my paws so FM took me to the vet on Monday and I have a little problem with a contact allergy (Vet thinks it's from the grass?). FM soaks my paws in a solution three times a day (which I do not like) and I get two pills with a snack every night before I go to bed. (50 mg benedryl) The allergy is getting better. I have also learned how to get out of my crate by springing the back and so when FD fixed that I sprung the front. FM and FD are now calling me "Meena Houdina" and I don't understand it. They are also talking about getting me a different type of crate? CRATE!! So now I am fenced in an area with my dog bed and water and the TV on, but I keep trying to get out and sometimes I manage to do it. The crate is there, but I don't go in it! I am really a good girl and just want to be with someone who will love me forever. I walk real nice on a leash, I go by my crate when it's time to eat and I love to play frisbee and ball. I am ready to find my forever home.
Love, Meena

Meena had a vet visit on 07/07/09 and is UTD on all shots. She tested positive for Lyme Disease. Took urine sample in the next day and it showed she also had a urinary tract infection. The following day Meena went on antibiotics for two weeks for the urinary tract infection and 28 days for the lime disease. She also has a small place on her right foot that she has been chewing and licking, so she has some topical medicine for that. Meena is getting along better with her foster brother, but must keep a keen eye on her as she loves to instigate. They are separated when feeding. They have been for rides together and now both sleep in our bedroom and have had no problems. When Meena rides in the truck and she sees another larger dog, she growls real low and shakes. She loves to play ball and frisbee and go for walks and would make someone a wonderful forever fur kid.

- On Sat. June 27th I came to stay with my FM. I was really stressed out after a long ride and being separated from my brother. It's very hard for a girl to make so many changes in such a short time. After a few days here I am settling in a bit, but I like to instigate fights with my foster brother Mojo and the neighbor's standard poodle. This morning I tried to start a fight, but FM was having none of that. I have not bothered the cat or the ferrets, but I like watching them. Maybe it's just too soon, or trying to start something is just me, so I have a fenced off area just for me and when FM and FD go to work I go into my crate. I am good in my crate and I have had no "accidents" in the house. FM put a "gentle leader" and leash on me today and I got to sleep on the couch with Mojo, but FM was between us and I was very good. I am getting plenty to eat and many snacks. I really am a sweet little girl and maybe I'd be best in a home where I am the only dog. More later - Meena
