| 5/10/09- Max came through all his medical issues and left today with his new forever family! Life of love, little man. 3/25/09 - Max has been on his medication for a little over a week and he is already doing much, much better! Max no longer has bloody diarrhea and is finally starting to have some solid bowel movements! Yeah for Max! If all goes well Max will be going back to the vets in three weeks for his vaccinations and hopefully if he has gained enough weight by then will be neutered the following week. Max is an absolute love bug, he wants nothing more than to curl with you and snuggle. I've been home sick the last few days and he has been more than happy to keep me company and hang out on the couch with me :) We had company over last Saturday and Max was an absolute ham and the most animated we've seen him since he's been here. Even though he wasn't feeling great, he still managed to greet everyone with little boxer wiggles. He also absolutely loved, loved, LOVED our friends' 10 year old son. Max stuck to him like velcro from the second he walked thru the door!!!!! I think this special boy would do great in a household that has children and a bit of hustle and bustle as he seems to come alive with it! The only thing I'm beginning to notice is that perhaps Max is not really good with cats. As he has started to feel better he has become a little too interested in the cats; he's fine with them sometimes and then other times he tries to pounce and eat them. Also if the cat runs from him, he gleefully chases him with perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm. I think it's safe to say that Max would do better in a home without cats. Hurry up and get your applications in for this special little boy, he won't be around for long! 3/19/09 - Things went very well with Max at the vets on Monday. He was an absolute love with everyone he met and he was so well behaved. He is heartworm negative and has been treated for fleas. He does have a horrible ear infection in both ears and is on a fantastic enzyme based ear treatment that should clear his ears right up. The vet diagnosed him with Histiocytic Ulcerative Colitis, and has started him on 6-8 weeks of Enrofloxacin which should help Max start to improve in 3 - 12 days. According to the vet HUC is fairly common in Boxers but it is quite treatable and almost all dogs treated with the medication Max is on never have a problem with HUC again. Cross your fingers for this sweet boy and hopefully if all goes well Max should be starting to feel better in the next few days. 3/15/09 - Max the little boy from MA arrived lastnight and it has been a very long night and a busy morning. I was able to get him & the crate cleaned up this morning and get some breakfast in to him that stayed down. He sat next to me at the computer for about an hour just leaning on me being petted, he's such a sweet, sweet boy and it just breaks my heart that he's so sick and I can't do anything but just try to comfort him. Max will be headed to the vets tomorrow to see if we can figure out what exactly is going on with him and maybe get him on some medication that will settle his GI tract down so he is more comfortable. It's hard to tell what his personality really is right now because he's feeling so poorly but we have gotten a few weak boxer wiggles out of him. More updates to come after his vet visit and as we get to know him. |
