5/22/09 - Mariah is going to her forever home on Sunday so I wanted to update everyone on her progress. When she arrived she was a scared pregnant puppy that did not trust anyone.  She took a few weeks to actually like me and even longer with people that do not live in my house.  When outside she would not go past the half way point in the yard and would run to the door if she saw a person or animal outside.  She was too affraid to stay in a crate if I was not home and would break out of any kind that I tried.  After a few weeks at my house she would actually greet me at the door with her tail spinning and loved to cuddle on the couch with me. She got used to my immediate family especially warmed up to my nephew and mother.  She would approach them as soon as they entered the house with smiles and wiggles. She would still shy away from men when they first entered but would approach them after a few minutes for love and treats. She learned that playing fetch was a lot of fun but would only play if it was late at night and no one was outside. She had her pups and was a great mom for the whole 8 weeks they were here.  When they were old enough to have visitors and go outside she gained some confidence because she felt she had to protect them.  Once her babies left the nest she started turning into a puppy herself.  She learned that she would rather protect the yard from people walking near the fence rather than running away from them. She started playing fetch (she is very good about bringing the ball back to you and dropping it) and running around the yard even during the day when there is a lot of distraction from the park next door. She willingly approaches them men she knows and tries to get them to play with her by bowing in front of them.  She met her new family a couple times and actually looked her new dad in the eye after about 15 minutes and 100 treats.  (this is big for Mariah)  She still is cautious of new people with the exception of kids.  She will stay in her crate when I'm not home even if I take Pheobe with me.  She doesn't like it but will tolerate it. She is going to a great home with a mom, dad, teenage brother and sister, toddler sister and a boxer sister.  They have been waiting patiently for her and can't wait to take her home.  I will miss my Mariah Lynne but she will be loved unconditionally in her new home.NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

YES MARIAH WAS PREGNANT- Her 6 puppies were born 2/13/09 and all adopted out between April 10th and April 18th. She'll be ready for her forever home as soon as she's spayed!!!

12/30/08 -  Mariah has settled in perfectly. She has really warmed up to my son. My vet let me bring her in yesterday just so I could weigh her. She is actually 60 pounds as of yesterday. Her and Gracie are becoming great friends, Gracie allows her to share the bed or couch with her (if you knew Gracie, you'd know this is an amazing thing!). She hasn't had any accidents in the house, she doesn't go in the crate any longer - no need. She is a very sweet dog, knows how to 'sit' and walks fairly well on the leash. We will continue to work on that. She loves to play but settles down nicely afterwards. The three of them did have some fun chewing one of my shoes yesterday, but I'm not sure which one it was (Woody has been known to steal my shoes, so could have been him!). More updates soon, but I just want to say Mariah is a very sweet dog and would make a wonderful addition to any family!

12/21/08 - Mariah arrived yesterday at the tail end of a snowstorm - rough going but she made it! She has settled in really well, she was a little shy at first but immediately turned into a velcro dog with me. She is getting along great with Woody, Gracie and Isaac. Woody is so happy to have a set of ears to lick again! Mariah is 9 months old and we are suspicious that she may be pregnant, as she was in heat and housed with an intact male boxer. She hasn't had any accidents in the house, and settles in the crate after complaining for a bit. she just loves to be with her people! She is extra-shy with men, and is slowly warming up to my son. She did take a biscuit from him a couple of times, so I'm sure once she's
settled she will be fine. She is a cute little fawn with four white feet. Will update again soon once things calm down here and we dig ourselves out of the snow!
