UPDATE 1/27/10 - Well, we have had Manny for 4 months. I can honestly say that I cannot imagine a day without Manny.  We took a Christmas Card picture with the kids, Manny and his fur brother Diesel.  The kids dressed up in costumes and we put Manny and Diesel in head scarfs...they were our shepherds.  Friends actually called to tell us how great it was.  Manny and Diesel stole the show!  We went away for Christmas and Manny and Diesel stayed at a kennel we have used for quite a few years.  "Auntie Kimmy" fell in love with Manny.  You can't help not.  He did great and had a lot of fun! That's the good news.
The bad news:  When we first got Manny we noticed he had a thing on his prepuce that looked like a large wart. We had brought him to our vet when he first arrived and she told us to keep an eye on it.  When we got back from vacation we noticed that it had gotten a little bigger but also he had 1 large and several small lumps in his scrotum and around his groin area.  Also overnight developed a pimply rash on his chest and belly. We immediately called the vet. She aspirated a few and told us they were Mast Cell Tumors.  She set up a consult at Tufts where we went a few days ago.  They sedated him, aspirated all ELEVEN and they all came back as Mast Cell Tumors.  Today our vet received the report from Tufts and called to go over the results.  We know in order to grade, the tumors would have to be removed and a biopsy performed.  I was told Surgery is possible but not recommended due to the fact that there are so many and a large margin is needed (difficult in that area to do) t  he chance of getting everything is very very slim and the chance of re-occurrence most definite.  The one on his prepuce once removed would also need reconstructive surgery.  Our vet told me she does not expect he will be with us long.  I can tell Diesel senses something is wrong.  Manny does not appear to be in pain and we started him on Benadryl and Pepsid.  The sadness I feel is beyond words....

UPDATE 12/19/09 - Manny "manuel" is doing just great!  He loves our walks but now that the cold weather and snow are here he's ready to walk and get on my "his" couch and snuggle.  He is so full of personality and loves all the attention he gets...which is a lot!  I think he loves being in a home where people are home all day and just feels so comfortable.  He is starting to play with toys while chasing his brother Diesel and I think starting to enjoy it.  He did great in obedience training and graduated with flying colors.  The funniest thing I can tell you about Manny is that he looks so much like the pig in the childrens' movie "Gordy".  He walks just like him and is so smart.  He fills us with laughter and love.

UPDATE 11/12/09 - Manny "Manuel" is doing just great.  We added his fur brother after we had Manny for just one month - Diesel II.  Manny wasn't sure about that for 1 day and now just loves having Diesel around.  Manny has established himself as the alpha dog and Diesel doesn't seem to really mind.  Manny's health is great.  He had some cuts on his head that have healed and his coat is soft and shinny.  He loves to walk and we do that 3 times a day...we also switched him to a harness and he walks even better.  He has always walked great until Diesel taught him that it was fun to want to chase after squirrels...not good this time of year, they are everywhere.  Manny's started obedience training and does well in class.  Manny has started chewing some of the kids toys around the house...not sure why, but it's one less toy to have to clean up.  Nothing really funny happens with Manny.  He is a very serious dog, he is not goofy or funny that is Diesel's job).  All he wants is to be loved.  He obv  iously had some abuse issues and has come a long way in two months.  He is starting to trust more and is much more comfortable, he has even given me a few kisses.  Diesel has gotten him to chase some toys and they run around.  Manny is even serious about that and tries to figure it out like there is a strategy.  Manny is just great!

9/13/09 - I was adopted today!

We had a fun weekend here in PA. We took Manny and Lina to Pet co and got some toys. Every one petted him and said how nice he was. He was very well behaved, he is such a good boy. After our trip to pet co we went out to the lake to see if they would like to swim. I didnt think he would cause he doesnt like the rain. Lina jumped right in after a ball and swam like a champ. Manny on the other hand is just like me and just waded around and got his feet wet, then after about a hour he was swimming too, we were so proud of him. After the swim we went for a drive and saw some deer, they were both very interested, barked a little then that was it. We went home with two very tired puppies. Manny has been alowed to sleep up stairs with us now and does great, except hes a bed hog, haha. He likes to strech out and cuddle at first then he goes to the bottom of the bed and snores away. He is a great fit here, we all love him. he is even playing with toys now and he didnt do that when he first got here. All I can say is he is a great boy with lots of love to give.

Hi Manny here, my foster mom wanted me to write a little about my self. First of all, I really like it here. The couch and bed are so soft and comfy for me. The kids are alot of fun, I like to give them kisses. The other dogs here are nice to, we like to play, my frienfd lina showed me how to box, its FUN! I had some bumps removed from my nipples, I guess its called a tumor. Foster mom says its a fibroma and thats good cause it means its begin, it means Im ok and healthy,YAY!! So please dont be afraid to adopt me. I know my foster family loves me(she says I can stay as long as I want), but I need a home of my own ,so foster mom can help other dogs like me. Bye for now, Im gona go lay on the couch.

I love this guy, He is the sweetest boy ever. He is feeling more comfortable here. He and Lina play for awhile then he just goes and lays on the couch. I think he is so happy to be on any thing soft.  His dry patches are getting better. Its funny he does this thing with his ears when we talk to him, one ear up and one down like he is really paying attention to what we are saying. Then when i call him "my boo boo bunny" he lifts hes side of his lip up like he is so excited. He let me get all the gunk out of his ears so they are squeeky clean now. I cant tell you enough how great he is. He is so gentle and just loves to be petted and held and hugged. He will make someone a great friend.

Manny has been here a little over 2 weeks now and he is settleing in very well. He has taken over the couch and is very comfortable. He has had a couple baths and his coat is nice and shiny. He had 2 tumors removed and they are looking much better. He has a dry spot on his tail that I keep putting cream on, it looks better also. I've come to the conclusion that he has never had toys to play with, cause he has no idea what to do with them. My boxer girl is teaching him how to box, cause he didnt know how to do that, either. He is such a good boy, very calm and sooo gentle. I do call him my boo boo bunny and he seems to like it. We have gone for a few walks, when its not raining. He walks great on a leash and likes all the kids in the neighborhood. He doesn't seem to pay any attention to the other dogs we pass. I can't say how wonderful he is, he loves to be held and pet, he likes to sit with me in the recliner. He gets along great with the boys and all their friends.  He can stay here as long as he likes, but he needs a forever home and family of his own, he really deserves it.

- Manny arrived in PA yesterday after a short stay in Jersey and a long ride from GA, What a traveler. What a nice boy he is. He is very loving and just wants to be loved up. I got the honor of naming him, which was fun.  I wanted to call him pookie wookie smochie face, but its not very manly. LOL. He never made a sound all night in his crate. He liked to play outside, then he curled up on the recliner with me and took a nap. I am very lucky to have such a southern gentlemen in my home. He had a tumor removed before he got here so I'm watching that. He had definitely had a rough start in life but he is a happy, kind, loving boy. I'll update more soon.
