| 11/29/09 - I was adopted today! 10/24/09 - Lacey has come to camp to romp and have some young doggie friend time. Lacey has been here for a week and almost immediatley our name for her became "Heart and Soul." She has the most perfect white heart on the back of her neck that clearly describes her sweet spirit. I cannot believe she is still in Foster care. We feel she is perfect. She is gentle, funny, and OH so loving. She has been well trained and is very in tune to what you want from her. She almost walks on her tippy toes when we are out walking and I whisper "gentle heal" Very Intelligent. She gets along great with the other dogs, not a mean bone in her. Loves, loves, loves, her people. Loves to play. The one thing that I am sorry to say is her picture on the site does not do her justice at all. She has the most perfect head and ears and very pretty. She would love a home that is active, being young she loves to play and have fun. No couch potatoes for her. This girl deserves the best. She has alot to offer a loving, fun, family. Please give her the chance she needs to flourish. 6/28/09 - Hi my name is Lacey and I am so excited!! I just found out I am going to be the dog of the month! I can hardly believe it!! Since I came into rescue so many great things have happened!! I used to spend every day in a cage in a nasty, scary, shelter and now, just a few months later, I am Dog of the Month!!! Wow... The only thing that could be better would be if I got a forever home all of my own. I think that might be too much to ask for, but my foster dad says I should tell every one what I want in a home so my people will know they are right for me. OK, a girl can dream, right? Here I go. First, I want someone who will love me. I know that is a lot to ask for, and I know it probably won't happen, but I promise to love you back twice as hard. Second, I would love to have another young dog to play with and a fenced yard where we can run. My foster dad thinks that is important because I have a lot of energy. I went to a party this weekend and meet lots of people and played with a puppy and another young dog. Oh boy it was so much fun. The other dogs got tired and I still wanted to play. I never get tired. There is just too much I want to do. I have never meet another dog or person I did not like. People like me, too, once they get to know me. I am also very good at training people. It only took me about a half an hour to train a very nice lady to share her pie with me. I would sit and give her my best puppy dog eyes and she would feed me pie right from her fork. So, if you adopt me, I promise to train you to be my best friend! My foster dad says that is why the third thing I need in a home is important. I don't agree with him, but I will put it in anyway. He says I need a strong leader. Someone who will set boundaries. Well if that is what it takes to get a forever home, I guess I can live with it, but I would be just as happy if I had people I could train to do what I wanted. So, if you are my forever family, I hope you find me soon! I am so ready to start my life!! I know we have a lot of adventures ahead of us and if we don't start soon we might not have time to do everything I want to do. I can't wait to meet you. 4/20/09 - Hi all, Lacey here. I just wanted to let you know what I've been doing the last couple of weeks. Well boy, has my life taken a turn, you might say I have entered doggy boot camp. Maybe I should start at the begining. First I spent 6 months of my life in shelter. The cage I was in was pretty small and I didn't have much to do, so for entertainment I chewed on the end of my tail. You know, when you are bored you will do anything for a little fun. After a while it began to hurt. Then I was sprung, taken to a foster home!! It was great to be out and running free but I think I got a little overwhelmed and wasn't as good a guest as I could have been. They told me I needed a quieter place to settle in and chill out! So I ended up in the woods of Maine. Talk about a drastic change in my life!! The foster dad that is in charge here agreed to take me in. I guess he figured if he could raise 4 human girls he can do anything! My foster dad tells me that I'm really a good girl and he knows I try really hard. He trusts me to sleep out of my crate at night, I'm doing really good with that. I need to work on the way I greet people. I get so excited that I forget and just jump all over them. I love those little people they call kids, but I get way to excited and sometime scare them. My dad says that I walk great on a leash and we are working on something they call basic obedience skills. There is just so much to learn here in the outside world. We went to this place with all these funny smells the other day, they called it the vet's office. I saw a special guy that was a dermatologuy or something like that. Anyway he checked me all over and told me how pretty I was. Well I already knew that, but he also said that there is nothing wrong with my skin and that the places I have hair missing are spots that were rubbed off on my crate. The good news is, my tail is healing nicely they keep spraying it with some stuff that makes it not leak blood. I actually have hair growing all over my tail. I look really good, if I do say so myself! There is an older boxer girl that lives here I like to cuddle with her on the dog bed. She just gives me a look and moves over. I'm sure she likes me. What's not to like!?! Oh, did I say I have energy to spare? I absolutely love to run! My neighbor foster home brings over the puppies and we play and wrestle. I have learned that they don't like it when I play too rough, they run away. I'm sorry this is so long but as you can see I have a lot to say. Oh yeah, they told me to say what my perfect forever home would be. Let me see... it would have to be with someone that loves to run and play. I think I would be good at that agility. I saw it on tv one day it looks like loads of fun. If you are a runner and want someone to run with I would be the girl for you. I would really like another dog to play with but it has to be someone young like me with lots of energy because, just between you and me, my foster sister is kind of a bore. Shhhh don't tell her I said that! So until my forever family comes along I'm just going to hang out here in the woods of Maine with my foster dad learning just how to be the perfect..... well maybe good girl. Love and lots of kisses, Lacey 3/28/09 - Lacey arrived at her foster home after being housed at a shelter in Westchester County, NY made infamous on craigslist. http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/pet/1085252408.html News from the foster home: She definitely has some skin issues that need to be addressed. Her feet and tail are in bad shape. Her tail is missing most of it's hair and is actively bleeding. There are also other bald spots on her body. She'll have to have skin scrapes done to rule out demodex, etc. I'm sure once she in a calm, stressless environment and eating a good food she'll clean up quickly. I have basically no history on her except she was obtained by the ASPCA shelter from a bad shelter with many, many animals. She's around 1 - 1 1/2 years old, not sure. She came with a photocopy of a rabies certificate with the breed whited out and boxer X written over it. Though she is young, she listens pretty well, she knows sit and down. She gets very, very excited when she first meets you, jumping is a problem and she is also mouthy. On the other hand, she is very sweet and likes to snuggle and give kisses. As far as the crate goes, she's not happy about it. It's a bit of a struggle to get her in and once she's in she screams, whines and barks. Hmmm....hopefully that stops. She met my Freya through the crate and was very excited and was barking loudly. Freya keeps asking me to let Lacey out of the kennel to play. Maybe tomorrow. |
