UPDATE 1/14/10 - Oh my gosh . . . you would never know this year old hound/lab mix originally hailed from the South. He sooo loves the snow. My husband was kind enough to snow blow a circle out in the back yard so Skeeter could better navigate in the deeper snow. However, it was totally unneccessary as Skeeter took it upon himself to trample down the rest of the yard, leaving no snowflake unturned! What fun it is to be a dog! Can't wait for mud season . . . UPDATE 12/10/09 - WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT JAXX, SHE'S JUST PERFECT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE SNOW BUT TURNS OUT SHE LOVES IT SHE DIDNT EVEN WANNA COME IN THE OTHER NIGHT SHE JUST WANTED TO KEEP PLAYING, SHE RUNS FROM ONE END OF THE YARD AND BACK TO THE OTHER SO NOW WE SNOWBLOWED A BIG CIRCLE FOR HER.EVERYONE THAT COMES TO VIST JUST FALLS IN LOVE WITH HER.LAST SUNDAY WE WENT FOR A VERY LONG CAR RIDE AND SHE WAS SO GOOD SHE HAD HER SNACK AND WATER AND JUST ENJOYED THE RIDE. 10/9/09 - I was adopted today! 9/8/09 - What a difference a week makes. Jaxx is now a daddy's girl. He gets all the snuggles and kisses for the last week. I'm jealous!!!! She has had run of the house when we are gone and she has been a perfect lady. She played with the neighbors 8 week old boston terrier, they had a ball. We went to the beach and there were all kinds of dogs there. She was the only one on a leash. My nephew was holding the leash and she darted away. She went straight for another dog. I was scared. She sniffed the dog but didn't do anything else. She will growl at certain dogs. I haven't been able to figure it out as to why or which ones yet. I thought it was only dogs bigger than her but that dog was bigger than her. She is an absolute angel in the home with people and kids. She is the most easy going dog I have ever fostered. She is on a routine and pees/poops on demand. When it's time for bed, we go out and I tell her to pee and she is done and in bed. She sleeps all night. If you are looking for an easy dog to take care of, this one is for you. 8/26/09 - Shhhhh....I'm being sneaky, this is Jaxx. My foster mom doesn't know I'm writing right now. I thought I would tell you about me (from my perspective). I am very well behaved in the house. I do not chew anything, I don't counter surf. I don't get into the trash. I don't beg for food and I'm a clean eater/drinker. I love kids and swimming, oh yeah, car rides too!! I get so excited when foster mom, dad or uncle come home!!! I do the kidney bean and chatter up a storm. My FM loves my chatter, it's like a squeaking sound, not a bark. I love to cuddle. I am particularly fond of the ladies... I like males, but am a little shy at first. I just keep my distance a little. I do warm up after a while. I like going for walks. I love to sleep with foster mom and dad. They cuddle me and give me kisses all the time. Sometimes I go to my own bed as they don't leave me alone. I sleep all night long and also like to sleep in in the morning. I have been her over a week and only had that one accident on the carpet. I don't have accidents on tile or wood floors. My FM puts me in the kitchen/dining room when she is gone and leave my crate opened. I don't like being in my crate with the door closed but I do like it when the door is opened. It's a feeling of being trapped. I kinda like other dogs but at a distance, especially the ones that are bigger than me since my nickname is "PEANUT" as I am only 40 pounds and tiny. I would love a home that someone is home all day but I will give in if you do have to work. I am happy being with someone all day. I'm really a people person. Anyways, I assure you that I will make you happy as I am really easy going. I'm not hard to take care of. Please consider me and I will fulfill your loving heart with wiggles and kisses. xoxoxo GOT to run---Foster mom is coming 8/24/09 - Jaxx came with us to a friends camp (no other dogs). She was a perfect angel. She ran free all day, played with all the kids, went for a boat ride, went tubeing and even went jet skiing. She absolutely loved her day at camp. She swam out to me in the water and swam back. Everyone fell in love with her. She slept well when she got home, lol. 8/21/09 - Jaxx has been here a week. In speaking with her previous owner, she would pee on a carpet only every once in a while. I left her out of her crate the first day and she did pee on the carpet. After that I kept her in the dining room which is tile and hasn't peed since. I leave her crate in there with the door opened and she does fine. I leave the radio going and she seems to be doing just fine (I sneak up and check on her, no crying). YEA for Jaxx. She is nervious around men and anyone new. She is velcroed to my side whenever I am home. She sleeps with us all night, and boy does she loves to sleep. She goes out to pee at 8 pm and is good until whenever we get up, she doesn't even move. She loves going for car rides and swimming in the pool. She also loves to snuggle. She is a sweetie pie. 8/15/09 - Jaxx has arrived. She is so beautiful. She is a petite 40 pound 4 yo boxer. She is being returned after a year and a half as the family she was living with schedule has changed and they aren't available as they were before. She was spending up to 9 hours a day alone and they had enough love for her to give her up and find a new home that will be able to spend time with her. She is absolutely a LOVE. She LOVES, LOVES, LOVES kids. She likes other dogs that are walking down the street but will not live with one. Cats either. Healthy as a horse. Loves to go for runs (with previous owner, LOL). She absolutely loves to cuddle. More to come later with pictures. UPDATE 3/23/09 - Jaxx has been with us for a year now! She is a very sweet girl when not around other dogs - she's ultra patient with her human brothers who are now 14 yrs and twins that are 7 yrs. She also gets along with her "cousin" boxer Magnum really well. But she definitely does not like my sister's pug. Zero tolerance there for some reason. We have tons of pictures of Jaxx having fun this past year in the yard, on the swingset (she even climbs up the ladder and goes down the slide), on car rides, boat rides and just snuggling in front of a warm winter fire. Her life is pretty nice I would say - she is loved and safe and happy. She even smiles! She is crated during the day while we are gone to work and school but she is out and free to roam around wherever she would like during all other times. Having a dog is a huge committment - I would encourage other prospective adoptive families to really consider the reality that foster parents do not have all the answers when fostering a dog - they are wonderful at what they do, but by the pure nature of the fact that they probably only recently received the dog - they may not be aware that the dog really isn't fond of the crate or really is NOT good with other dogs. That is the case with Jaxx - she just isn't good with other dogs and it is a bit of a sadness for me since I come from a family that has dogs. I do believe that none of us feels completely safe when Jaxx is around other dogs - she becomes short of patience and snaps and growls. But she NEVER showed this aggression towards the boys which is the major fact for me. Well - onto Year 2.... UPDATE 8/12/08 - Wow - 6 months already. We have had an incredibly busy life and Jaxx fits into it perfectly. She is an amazingly fun and smart boxer! She has been camping this summer and has been traveling with me whenever I leave town to visit friends or family. She gets along pretty well with Magnum (her adopted cousin) and the new puppy cousin too. Jaxx was crated for awhile until I could figure out the secret to getting her to not have an accident in the house while I'm at work. The solution was for me to roll up my 'fake oriental' rug in the living room each morning before I leave. She will not pee or poo on the hardwood floors for some reason!! So now, as a reward, Jaxx gets to spend the day on the couch will full nosey-access to the front room windows. She loves it. She also loves sharing my bed - almost as much as I love it. She is a true gift to the family and we are just in love with her. The 3 boys are crazy about her - in their words, "she's a cool sister". UPDATE 5/26/08 - Jaxx is doing great - still not very pleasant with some other dogs but fantastic with people. She is adjusted to life with me and the 3 boys. She continues to go everywhere with me except for work! I had to go out of town this past week so Jaxx stayed with a friend - she had a great time and adjusted well to staying there for the week. She missed me and couldn't wait to get home so it was especially cool to know that she feels THIS is her forever home and she knows she belongs here. Jaxx has great fun on the boys swingset - she climbs up the ladder and slides down the slide on her paws until she reaches the middle of the slide at which point she launches herself halfway across the yard. Very funny to see. She is trained to stay in the backyard without the leash and she goes to the same area to poo every day - makes it easy for clean up and particularly convenient for the boys to run and play around the rest of the yard with no fear of stepping in dog poo. UPDATE 4/19/08 - Jaxx is progressing beautifully. She is getting along much better with Magnum, the boxer male. At baseball practice for my oldest son today, Jaxx met another male boxer (twice her size again!) and she also good with him. Jaxx is crated during the day and does much better with getting used to the crate - I say that because she can't escape from this model of crate (the igloo kind). It makes life much easier when Jaxx is crated and doesn't poop or pee in the house during my work day. We get Jaxx out in the yard for 'free play' everyday and loves to run around and even play on the swingset fort and slide. She travels everywhere with me for visits with family, baseball practices and games, and this summer we'll be out on the boat. UPDATE 3/22/08 - Jaxx is doing very well. She is absolutely perfect with humans but has aggression with other dogs. She spends a number of hours alone during the day because I work full time but after work hours this girl is kept busy by my 3 boys - 2 of which are 6 year old twins. I think she wipes her brow and says 'thank God for a little peace and quiet' when we leave the house each morning. She loves to sleep on the couch in the sunshine during the day - she hasn't been crated at all as she does very well outside of it. At bedtime, she sleeps on my bed with me - she even asks for permission each evening rather than just jumping up on the bed. Jaxx is a great eater and is very social. She loves to chew on her bone or toss around her play toys which include a 'doggy' purse, flip flop and bouquet of flowers. Very girly. Jaxx goes everywhere I go. She is a great car traveler and, in fact, every day after work I go home to get her and take her with me when I drive around town to pick up the boys. Baseball season for all 3 boys starts soon and she will be with me at every game! When I adopted Jaxx, the opportunity to have a dog came up during a very busy time in my work life (working lots to get a local broadway theatre open) so I have not gotten her signed up for dog school yet but I will work on that in the next week or so. Her health seems great - we have yet to have a visit to the vet for any problems. The biggest opportunity with me and Jaxx is to get her to behave better with other dogs. It's been a few weeks since she's been around the other boxers in my family but she's going to get some additional exposure to Magnum this Easter weekend. She's a great snuggler and the boys really enjoy having her around. She likes to play with them and chase their toys. She also likes to chase my vaccum! Although the aggression towards other dogs isn't very fun, it does become humorous when she sees her reflection in the glass fireplace doors and starts to growl at herself. She really is a kick!!! Will be in touch in another month with updates on schooling and baseball field antics : ) 2/25/08 - Jaxx has been adopted! 2/13/08 - She is a wonderful dog. She loves to give kisses and snuggles. She is not to interested in toys. She doesn't leave my side. She slept with me all night and didn't make a peep. No house accidents. 2/10/08 - Jaxx arrived in rescue today all the way from Virginia. She was turned into a shelter after a divorce in the family. |
