UPDATE 4/15/10 - We can't believe Jack has been home for almost a year now. Yesterday he had his one year check-up and left with a clean bill of health and weighed in at 50.7 lbs. Jack is very lean even though he eats 4 cups of food a day. The vet says he will probably fill out soon and we will eventually need to cut down on how much food we give him. But,for now he is a very active guy with a very good appetite! There is nothing subtle about Jack...he loves and plays with all his being. His favorite toys are his tennis balls. Dad took him to a local tennis court where they retrieved a trunk full of discarded tennis balls...Jack shreds 3 daily and will probably need a new trunk full by month's end! He loves to play fetch and go for hikes. Jack no longer spends the night in his crate since he could not get over the separation anxiety. Instead, both our dogs have new plush beds and sleep next to Mom and Dad's bed at night. We do have to put the dogs in their crates if we go out for a while, t  hough, since we tried leaving Jack out of his crate a few times and came home to a shredded couch. Oops! The dogs are never home alone for very long so they have been fine in their crates with a few treats. We are looking forward to the up coming summer together especially since we have found out how much Jack loves the water. We take him to the local pond and he splashes right in! More adventures of Jack to follow...

UPDATE 1/24/10 -   http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll125/biloo2u/Jack%20Jack%20the%20Legend/JackJack.jpg

Jack is doing great.  He is a total love and appears starved for attention, even though he gets more love than he can handle.  He will go from person to person to get attention and he loves to have his ears rubbed.  He loves the snow and playing fetch.  He thinks he is a lap dog, even though he weighs in at about 50 lbs.  He knows his commands very well and is extremely eager to please.  I would like to send more pictures but I don't see an easy way to load them, so I have enclosed a link to a current picture of Jack.  He has turned into a beautiful and great dog.

UPDATE 7/26/09 - The adventures of Jack continue...we are very excited that he has finally mastered the game of "fetch" as well as the command "drop it".
Jack was a gleaming graduate of Petsmart's Beginner puppy class. He looked so handsome in his graduation cap! We are looking forward to continuing with Intermediate classes soon.
Jack was neutered in June. He recovered without problems...other than being very careful when sitting down the first couple of days afterwards...we tried to remember not to give him the command to "sit". OUCH!
We have been noticing that Jack has some issues with separation. He is great in his crate at night but if you put him in his crate during the day for a short while, he barks up a storm. He has also been showing some bone aggression towards our puggle, but we are careful to stop any growling instantly so the behavior doesn't escalate. We also make sure that if one dog has a bone, the other dog has one too. Jack is quite funny, though, when it comes to his bones...he will steal our puggle's bone right out from under his nose and then sit on it while he chews on his own. It is a work in progress.
Although it has been a very rainy summer, Jack has been enjoying hikes and walks around the lake with the family. We love tired puppies!
Jack continues to amuse us with his unique personality. While at the vet, a woman asked me what kind of dog Jack was and what his temperament was like. The only way I could think to respond was to say, "there is no way to explain Jack, you just have to experience him for yourself!"

UPDATE 6/11/09 - Jack Frost ,or Jack Jack as we affectionately call him, is doing great. Jack went on his first camping trip with the boys. He learned to fish and went boating. With a little coaxing he even swam! It was a great boys weekend!
We are very pleased that Jack is now sleeping through the night...his crate has been dry every morning for the last couple of weeks, which has earned him new bedding. Jack even went to Petco with Daddy to pick it out.
We got a special lead which attaches to both our dogs' collars and has made walks much more enjoyable. No more getting tangled!!
Jack is scheduled at the vet to be neutered next week and we only have 3 more obediences classes left. Our boy is growing up!!!

UPDATE 5/20/09 - Jack has grown quite a bit since we brought him home. He is already bigger than our puggle at 30 pounds! He loves to initiate play with Turbo, but sometimes he gets a little too excited and Turbo has to put him in his place with a growl.
Obedience training is half way over. Jack has learned to sit, stay, come leave it, and we are still working on drop it. He has gotten much better at stay, especially when someone comes to the door. We have been practicing the stay command also when going outside so that he does not bolt out the door when we don't want him to.
Jack has been pulling lately on his leash. I think it is because he is so excited about his surroundings. It is really quite a sight because he coughs and gags himself.  We have worked quite a bit on leash walking in obedience class, especially regarding the pulling issue.
We have also had to remember to put items far back on the counter since Jack has discovered counter surfing!
He is just tall enough to get his nose onto the counter to investigate what is there. There has been much doggy proofing going on as well, such as reminding the kids to pick up toys and especially socks!
Jack is going on his first long car ride this week to grandma's. We are excited to show off our handsome boy!

UPDATE 4/22/09 - Hello Everyone,
It has only been a couple of days since Jack Frost(we call him Jack)came home and there is already so much to tell!
Jack had a long ride home to New York, so before leaving Maine he had a long walk on the beach to tire him out and visited Portland Head. Jack was great in the car!
He had his first check-up at the vet already and received the rest of his vaccinations and was micro-chipped.
Jack is all love! He is so eager to please and fits into our family as though he has always been here. At first his new brother Turbo, who is a puggle, tolerated him, but they are becoming fast friends, frolicking and playing in the back yard. They are even hitting their stride when being walked. They fall into rhythm as if only one dog was on the leash.
We are taking Jack outside frequently between walks so he can relieve himself and he has only had a couple of accidents indoors.
Jack is not only walking great on the leash but he is starting to come when called and is working on the command to sit. When it's time for obedience class, Jack will be the class role model!
Thank-you Second Chance for working in such a timely manner to help us get our boy home!
More updates to come...

4/20/09 - My new family came looking at my brother, but just fell in love with me! Can a boy get so lucky?! I have a new home!

4/15/09 -
Jack is definitely the goof ball of the litter. He always look confused. He loves attention and is up for any new adventure but part of his charm is he gets distracted and when all the other puppies are running around the yard and chewing on sticks Jack can be found trying to stick his nose in the exhaust pipe of the car or tripping down the steps because he has not figured out that his legs have grown again.

3/17/09 -
Well the puppies are now ten weeks old and have been to the vet for their second set of shots. I also have new weights on them all. Jack Frost now weighs in at 16lbs 9ozs. Jack is just a big goof ball that wants to be loved. Every time I turn around I find him sitting quietly. gazing up at me lovingly. He has this way of looking at you that makes you feel like he adores you. Jack is hard to explain in writing. He is a puppy that needs to be met in person to be fully appreciated.
