UPDATE 2/7/10 - Cindy has been doing well during her training and we now have only two more sessions to go. She loves the trainer and she has a hard time sitting quietly. She wiggles so hard and her little tail goes constantly. She has the whole class in stitches!!!She has stopped her constant whining for the most part but dinner time is still rather noisy. She inhales her food and acts like she is hungry all the time. I do dispair of her ever relaxing enough to realize that she will be fed.   She loves to play out in the snow and it is really funny to watch her jackrabbit around. She has really bonded with my husband and spends a lot of her time sharing quality couch potato time with him during the day.

UPDATE 12/27/09 - Well, the surgery went well and it proved to be a re occurance of the earlier mass cell tumor removed prior to us adopting her. It is a weird kind in that it is a self contained sort called a spindle something or other and can come back. The vet took quite  a hunk of skin so as to get the best clear edges he could. We will keep an eye on it in the future. She has bounced back quite well and it was hard to keep her relatively quiet until her stitches could get removed. She would not wear the e-collar so we got her a number of t shirts so that she could not get at the surgery site.
We got her rescheduled for her training and her first actual class will be Jan 8th. We updated her shots to include Bordetella since she will be meeting up with other dogs during the training.
This girl is definitely Daddy's girl and loves to cuddle up with him on the couch. She snuggles up to him and rests her head on his shoulder or knee and it is funny to watch him move over to allow her to get comfortable!
She loves to play kissy face with Baron and chase Flynn up and down the woods out back and with the snow she has become a jackrabbit to get around.

UPDATE 11/27/09 - Just a short note to let you know how we are progressing.
We have had the first obedience class and visit to the vet but We have run into a couple of health problems that will delay the completion of her obedience training. The first has to deal with me. I had a retinal detachment just before we picked Cindy up from her foster mom back in Oct. Unfortunately that surgery was not successful and last Friday it was necessary for me to undergo a second corrective surgery. It will be another couple of weeks before I can tackle routine life tasks again.
The second has to do with Cindy herself. She made her get acquainted visit to the vet for a once over and some needed shots. I also asked him to check out the surgery site on her left abdomen where she had the previous surgery that removed the large tumor she had when SCBR received her. There was increased swelling and I did not know if it was scar tissue or what and he was concerned enough to recommend that he go in and remove it and send it out for lab review. She is scheduled for that on Dec 7th.
Allowing for a 10 day recovery period, she should resume her training process about the 17th. In the mean time we will continue with the home level tng and adjustment.

UPDATE 11/15/09 - Well our little southern gal does not like snow! We had about an inch for less then a day and every time she had to go out she was less then delighted to do so. Talk about high stepping! It was like "Ew, Ugg, Ick, Hey mom what is this stuff? Do you really expect a lady to do her thing in this?" And like most boxers she does not like the rain. She stands at the door and whines."Stop! Go away" And then looks at me as if I have anything to do with it and can make it all disappear!
Cindy is a real talker although it mostly consists of what sounds like desperate whines. She is still sort of prone to panic about food and acts like she worries where her next meal is coming from. We were feeding her the same amount we were feeding both Baron and Flynn and she was remaining the skinniest little thing. I think she was running it off as she is in perpetual motion. We were also concerned that maybe she had worms. We upped her portions a bit and she has finally started to put on a little. We do not want her to get fat but up here when it gets cold a girl needs just a bit more padding!
She has fitted in very well although she tries to bully Baron every so often. She is learning the house rules and will now sit and wait for me to prepare the food for their meals. She has stopped for the most part whining loudly to let me know she was hungry. She has learned to use the doggy door and is pretty much free to go in and out as she likes. She picked up on the Invisible Fence although she still is somewhat hesitant to explore up in the woods back of the house. At first she didn't quite know what to do with the toys that are all around the house but soon picked up on the concept of play after watching Flynn playing with his. She recognizes the command to "Settle down!" which means "It is not time to get up just yet."and "Find your squeaky," to go get her favorite toy of the moment.
Both she and Baron have become couch potatoes in the evening joining my husband on the couch as he watches TV and they snooze. Earlier this week Cindy was laying on top of Baron in a most improper way. I was tempted to take pictures but it was embarrassing.
Both Baron and Cindy are scheduled to visit the vet tomorrow, he for an update on his shots and her for her get acquainted visit. I want him to check the earlier surgery that removed the mass on her side. It remains rather swollen. It could be scar tissue but just want to be sure. Cindy will start her training later this week at Petsmart. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to the store and the other dogs.

UPDATE 11/2/09 - Our little southern belle Cindy Lou is settling in just fine thank you and has finally relaxed. She quickly had her daddy wrapped around her little paw and these days can often be found (along with Baron) cuddled up on the sofa with him. She has begun to play with both toys and the other dogs.
When she first arrived she paced constantly and we referred to her as our energizer bunny. We think she must have been a city girl as she hated the rain and getting her feet wet. (I hate to think what she will do when the snow starts!) She is constantly hungry so I wonder if she spent some time out on the streets. She is skinny but it just may be because she has such a high energy level that she runs it off. I do want the vet to check for the possibility of worms. She is very talkative and will come and cry at you trying to get you to play or let you know she has to go out.She is very interested in exploring the grounds around the house and up in the woods, but she is not comfortable enough yet to be out of sight of her mom or dad.
She is now trained on the Invisible Fence but does not like to go out by herself without her mommy or daddy for her to keep an eye on. I was hoping that I could stand on the porch and not get wet but no such luck!
She gets along well with our older male Baron and they play kissy face constantly. She has picked out a couple of toys that she considers "hers" and it is so entertaining to watch her play with them. She has learned how to bring her rope tug toy to you and will flop it in your lap to play tug of war. She will pounce and toss a ball up into the air and chase it about the house or yard.
We are scheduled to start her training on the 18 of November with our local Petsmart but I do not anticipate any problems. Her FM had her pretty well trained to sit and walk on a leash and she has picked up on the house rules pretty quickly. Her recall has improved 500% and she will now respond without much protest. She knows there is a treat waiting for her when she does. She is scheduled to see the vet for a get acquainted visit and once over on the 16 of Nov and her fur brother will get his shots updated at the same time. We are really pleased with her.

10/16/09 - Cindy Lou has been adopted!

I have been puppy-sitting  Miss Cindy Lou for almost a week now. I don't know why she has not found her forever home yet! She is such a sweet thing and looks for your praises. She is beautiful! She is house broken, eats & drinks very well, and rides well in the car. She loves to go for walks! That is her favorite thing; that and play. She has a lot of energy! She and Casey were ok at first, but a little wary about each other. Now they are starting to wanna play with each other. She will be going back to her real foster mom on Tuesday. She was pleasure to have!

7/5/09 -
Hi everyone!  My foster mom told me it was time to start bragging, I mean talking about myself...ahem.. It has now been almost 1 month that I have been in CT.  I really do love it here...my foster mom is teaching me all sorts of things..like walking proper on a leash, letting her know when I need to go outside, and I've finally learned how to sit after being told to do so only once! Still working on the whole laying down on command thing though.. Annndd I still like to follow fm around the house...not always though..it does get tiredsome walking up and down 2 flights of stairs all day long!
I am all healed from my surgury and doing great! ( glad that is over..whew!)    I have been around a lot of fm's friends and kids...I love kids!
I was told there were 2 cats living downstairs...never do see them though..fm says its better for them to stay away from me because one of them isn't happy I am here and swats! I only wanted to sniff her I swear!
I love to play fetch, even though sometimes I get carried away and forget what I am supposed to do wtih the ball after I've caught it!  I have gained a little weight...my foster mom says I look alot better than I did when I came here.
Miss Cindy Lou has come along way...no more being shy..she has shown me her wild and crazy side!  She is still a bit of a shadow but will go lay down in her favorite spot with her blankie on her own.  She is fabulous with kids of all ages.  She hasnt really come in contact with another dog..she does see my neighbors dogs from a distance and will give a low growl and maybe a bark or two but only if the other ones bark first.  I do have 2 cats..which the has met...she had absolutely no reaction to them...until one of them hissed and swated..then she barked..but no lunging or pulling at them..more of a curious look!  And gaining weight! Thank goodness...she is looking healthy again!
Well that is all for now...talk to you soon!

6/15/09 -
Well it has been a week and a half since Cindy Lou's arrival.  She is settling in very well.....showing me her crazy hyper side every once in a while.
Her bandages from her surgery on 6/10 have come off this weekend...and she is healing well
We are working on commands every day.....with  much emphasis on "stay"!!  Still havent quite gotten that one yet but working very hard.  One thing that has changed though is her sense of protectiveness...she would welcome anyone to pet her loving all the attention..now she is becoming cautious and if someone is walking by the house she lets out a very low growl but will not jump or pull at them..which is good.  But she LOVES kids!
And  I am very happy to say that she is filling in quite well!  She loves to eat!

6/15/09 -
Todaywe received the results from vet on the one tennis ball tumor that was removed.   It was actually 3 melanoma tumors in the one tennis ball tumor.  The Dr. felt he removed all of the tumor and with plenty of width at the margins.   As you can read below, she is doing great & ready to go home now!

6/11/09
- Cindy Lou is back to her foster home and recovering well. She was romping around Nancy’s yard this morning having a good old time! I don't want to brag but I still can't believe how good of a dog she is!

6/10/09 PM - For those watching Cindy Lou's progress she came thru surgery with flying colors, she was standing up and moving around slowly by 1:30pm. Now we just wait for the biopsy results.

6/10/09 AM - I was lucky enough to meet Maria and Miss Cindy Lou (what a sweet, sweet dog) this morning. She greeted everyone with tail wagging and kisses and her color is absolutely beautiful. Thank You Maria for meeting me at the vets. She is having a tennis ball size tumor removed from her flank area and she should be back home with Maria tomorrow.

6/5/09 - Miss Cindy Lou arrived lastnite......she is such a sweet sweet girl! Absolutely no nervousness and definitely not shy at all! Loves giving kisses and ofcourse all the attention she is getting! And a huge plus....she slept thru the night.... :)
She does have a large mass on her side and she is quite skinny....but we will fix that up..she's a good eater!
More to come later..

6/1/09 - I'm not being biased, but my name sake visitor, Cindy Lou from Georgia is an absolute sweetheart!
Thanks to Tracy she is squeaky clean. If my son feels itchy today it is likely because Cindy Lou slept in his bed last night & Tracy discovered she was completely infested with fleas - yikes!
Cindy Lou I'm sure will have a fabulous new life - she has a magnetic personality and loves to give kisses. She wiggles and wiggles too. Her only flaw (apart from the tumor on her side) is that she is NOT cat friendly, but she has been getting along fine with other dogs she has encountered.
I'll be meeting her new Foster Mom on Saturday & will wish this sweet southern girl a wonderful life!
