| UPDATE 9/10/10 - Jackson is fantastic. He is still the best snuggler and playful guy. Loves the squeeky balls! He gets better behaved by the day. He can venture out the front door and hang out with us and his sister boxer on the porch without any worry of bolting. He is also extremely handsome. We love him to pieces. Jackson has definitely found his place in our family. UPDATE 3/9/10 - Jackson is fantastic! He completed obedience training in January. He was a great performer with all the commands - especially since he knew most of them already. He still needs some work in controlling himself when other dogs come around. He just wants to play, play, play. Jackson is also the most vocal dog we have ever had. This is not vocal like barking but vocal as in moaning and groaning. He is such a character. Squeaky balls are still his favorite. And he and Madison box in the backyard great together. What a wonderful addition to our famiy! UPDATE 12/14/09 - Three months already! We started obedience training and luckily got a small class. He knows most commands so the benefit is really socialization skills. Otherwise he is doing great. He made it into the family Christmas card going out this week. We'll find out this week and he behaves with the Christmas tree, the ornaments, the stocking and the presents! UPDATE 11/15/09 - Chulo was not attached to his name when we got him and his FF was referring to him as Chu Chu, Charlie and various other names. We attached Jackson to the end of Chu for "Chu Jackson" and now call him Jackson, Jack or Jack Jack. Regardless, he knows when we are talking to him. We found the solution to the leaving him in the house when we go out -- give him access to our bed. He didn't like the crate at all and spent the entire time, each time chewing on the metal until there was a pool of slobber and drool at the bottom of the cage. So we let him have access to our bedroom and low and behold he curls up there and has been pretty good. He knows to sleep downstairs with Madison at night. Like clockwork he comes to our bedroom between 6 - 6:30 am to get some snuggle time with us. He particularly loves burying his face into something. And he also loves to groan and moan when he stretches. We also found Jackson the best toy -- a squeaky ball. He pounces on it and talks to it. It keeps him occupied for quite a while. He and Madison also box and run through the backyard at fast clips a few times a day unless it rains. He hates the rain! The vet says he's a great dog and we agree! They were impressed with how clean and good looking he is. Jackson gained a couple of pounds and could probably use just a couple more to get to 60 -- you can still see some of his spine when he stands but not as bony as he used to be. Obedience training starts next week. Should be fun since he goes absolutely crazy when he sees another dog. Would like to post some pictures but not sure how. UPDATE 10/13/09 - Chulo has made great friends with our other boxer, Madison. They have boxing matches in the backyard and try to outrun each other. Despite his exceptional behavior reported by his foster family, he has exhibited some very puppy behavior with us. He will chew items when we are not home and has been caught counter-surfing a couple of times. As a result, we decided to crate him when we go out until he learns. He doesn't like the crate (he has some separation anxiety) but our house has an open floor plan that doesn't allow for us to gate him or confine him to one space. Chulo is also a very big snuggler. He would sleep in our bed all night if we let him but he is too big to share the bed with us. He has taken well to sleeping with Madison instead. He'll start an obedience class in November. 9/13/09 - Chulo has been adopted! 7/31/09 - Well it has been just about a week now and I wanted to update you on Chulo- he is just the sweetest little guy. He is housebroken and does well through the night as long as he goes out just before bedtime. He gets along wonderfully with my older male and female. He does not counter surf or go on furniture unless he is given permission. He seems a bit apprehensive of males at first but will warm up quickly, no issues with women. He is very affectionate but not a pest. He is content to be laying on the floor beside me while I work at the computer or when I'm watching TV. He has put on a bit of weight and does love treats. He does the cutest thing- every once in a while he'll come over to me and nuzzle his head into my shoulder and just sit there, kinda like he's giving me a hug. He is quiet and rarely barks. We have gotten very attached and he follows me everywhere. He is basically a perfect dog, either with or without other dogs in the house. If I didn't have 3 already I would adopt him in a heartbeat. He no longer goes in the crate at all because he is so well behaved in the house- this guy could teach my guys a thing or two. 7/24/09 - Chulo has arrived. What a beautiful boy!!! Not happy about going in the crate, but once in does fine so far. Chulo likes to jump and box, my two are too lazy for that nonsense and get a little angry, so we will have to work on that with ours. Chulo is bilingual too, very talented! :) He is a wonderful young fawn male who so far is very mellow, listens very well, does not go on furniture or beds, walks well on the leash and is not distracted by people or other animals. He has a puppy training certificate from PetSmart and someone obviously spent time with him beyond that. He is friendly but not overly friendly. He doesn't jump on us and seems pretty independent. He is housebroken according to his last home. He is not crazy about the crate but will go in when forced to. He will bark for a bit but does quiet down after a while. He is just a good boy!!! We've only had him for a few hours- I will update you as we see other traits in his personality. |
