| UPDATE 9/6/10 - Well, I guess Charlie is at his adult weight at 55# still and a year and a half old. We wonder if the "hound" in him may be greyhound since he's always been so sleek and narrow.
Charlie is still a bit timid. He loves the treadmil and spend almost all of August indoors for his walks because it was too hot here. Recently on walks/runs outdoors we are recalling all of his "tail between the leg" behavior. But we love him so we'll work it out and build his confidence again. Charlie is continuing making gains with visitors, relaxing quicker and heading our instruction. And we continue to be greatful for his "alarm dog" nature. The early morning encounter with a skunk this summer was our highlight though. In the dusk, I washed him over and over! On the plus side, Charlie doesn't mind any of his grooming anymore....but actually enjoys it. UPDATE 2/28/10 - Charlie is almost a year old and weighing in around 55#. He's continued to be our loving companion and is making lots of friends at the dog park! Charlie still doesn't like the telephone poles, garbage cans and sewer covers that we encounter on our daily walk/runs, but who really does anyway? :) Charlie knows all of his manners and is improving daily except still has trouble leaving the male visitors some peace. The power of bacon and little kids eating pretzles still tempts Charlie but for the most part, he waits patiently for his turn. Charlie had his first play date at another dogs house and he had so much fun rough-housing! UPDATE 1/2/10 - Charlie is having lots of fun in all this snow! He took a short while to figure it out, now he know's snow=play time! Charlie is still growing...up to 48# and he can reach his head over the bed to give kisses to sleeping children. Charlie still likes his puppy Kong and is enjoying his new Coatamundis that he got for Christmas. We graduated from beginer dog training with MOST IMPROVED DOG AND HANDLER!!! That really just means CHarlie and I still have some work to do. I'm learning how to be more calm assertive when Charlie feels threatened and still lunges/ barks at guests and other dogs. Well, off for the best stuff.....more sledding and chasing sleds in the snow. UPDATE 10/29/09 - Well, Charlie lost his SCBR tag yesterday.....rest assured if it's found, we still have good care of Charlie. He's got a CT tag still. Charlie is such a nice addition to our family. He is getting better on walks not pulling so much. Jack wonders why he won't retreive the ball for us but sure will run after the frisbee. He does great in his crate while we're at work. He even was so considerate as to have an accident an aim outside the crate! Charlie is a handful at group obedience lessons. He just can't keep his attention off other dogs. Charlie loves the dog park and is a perfect gentleman....coming as soon as he's called after running with the pack. He's gained a few pounds and is still thin so who knows how much growing he has left. He gets lots of treats and is very loving and tolerant of the boys. But he still loves me best...looking for me and following me around the house;) UPDATE 10/9/09 - Charlie is doing great. He know's the routine and loves running for his frisbee squirrel. He's still having trouble figuring out how to get treats out of the Kong and lunging/barking at any new dog or person. I can't figure out if he's so used to roughhousing with his brothers and just wants to play or what. But he's learning to settle down with a few commands. Charlie is very gentle with the boys and loves cleaning up their crumbs. He did great at the vet....not a flinch for the seccond booster shots. We're so happy to have Charlie around! UPDATE 9/27/09 - Charlie is having so much fun with his new family! He's adjusted well to our home and follows the rules. He's a bit of a scaredy cat though....he barks and chases his shadow! He's still learning how to get treats out of the Kong, and he's practicing sit, walk, stay and come. He's a star at "leave it" and "hurry up" for relieving himself (Thanks Joanne). Although Charlie is very obedient at home, distractions like traffic, other dogs and people are still difficult. We had our first group obedience class and Charlie tried to attack a Doberman, Rotti and the German Shepherd! For a little guy he sure can break through collars. Once he meets a new dog he really just wants to play. Charlie is a great sleeper and he continues to be very affectionate. Thanks SCBR! 9/6/09 - I was adopted today! 7/6/09 - Are you looking for a fun little friend to share a lifetime with? Then one of these pups might be for you. Champ is the largest of the three and seems to be the leader. He love to play with other dogs and run around outside. Charlie is the clown of the group and a bit of a thief. he will steal shoes or the tv remote any chance he gets. Casey is the little girl. She is the most shy of the three but she is gainning confidence every day. She loves to climb into my lap and give kisses while here brothers rough house. |
