| UPDATE 4/4/10 - It has been one year since we adopted Caesar and life with him just keeps getting better and better. He is the love of our lives. He is a great companion and all he wants to do is love and be loved. He asks for nothing else. Today we took him for a great walk and he loved it. He loves to ride in the car as well.
He went to the vet last week and the vet said he looks great - he is at a perfect weight, gets plenty of exercise, eats well and is very happy. We are very happy too! We look forward to the upcoming years with Caesar! UPDATE 4/12/09 - This is Caesar's one-month update and he is doing great! He continues to amaze us with how wonderful a dog he is. He just wants to be loved and that's exactly what we are doing with him. We have started taking him for walks along the Blackstone Canal and he loves that. There are so many new smells for him to explore. We just had our third obediance class with Caesar yesterday. He is learning. He has mastered "sit" and we are practicing "paw", "down", and "with me". The instructor loves him and has a special fondness to rescues. She told us yesterday that we got a great dog. We know that! Caesar goes to the vet next week for his second lyme shot and after that, we are good to go until December when he needs his rabies update. We found a new vet who is just wonderful with him. We are still challenged with getting Caesar to pee and poop in the backyard. He did it for my husband today so we are hoping he will soon get the hang of this. That's it for now! 3/14/09 - Ceasar has been adopted! 1/18/09 - Ceasar is a gem! We at the Riverview love his mellow temperament and his easy going ways. He has earned full house privileges, and is allowed to have access to the house uncrated while we are at work because he has proved that he is trustworthy. Ceasar doesn't chew, and doesn't have accidents in the house. Ceasar will occasionally play with Heidi, but tires of her activity level soon. He is mush more a couch potato than she is! Sometimes he escapes into one of the crates for some down time where she can't bother him. So Ceasar is hoping that his forever home won't have any hyperactive puppies for him to tolerate. He would love to be someone's only dog, and would be OK with having another mellow adult canine--male or female-- as part of his new home. Ceasar gets along equally well with men and women, but thinks that young children have a little too much energy for him for more than a visit. He thinks that a teenager who likes to take long walks would be perfect! 1/4/09 - Ceasar is back at the Riverview as his adoption did not work out. He will do best in a quiet home with no young children. 1/1/09 - Ceasar was adopted! 12/19/08 - Ceasar is a fine fellow! He has learned his name, he's learned how to go right into the crate, and he's learned that we have soft couches! We discovered that Ceasar is gentle with and really loves little kids! (We had a toddler visiting today who is dog savvy, and Ceasar just went right up to him and started giving him kisses!) Ceasar gets along fine with his 'brother' and with Heidi, although he does really like to have lots of attention--so he may growl at one of them if they come near me when I'm petting him. He also quiets right down with a reprimand. Ceasar is wonderfully calm--he likes to hang out on the cozy sofa. But it also seems that if the weather had cooperated he would have enjoyed taking a walk, too. I guess the bottom line is that he'll be happy doing whatever--as long as it is with YOU! 12/16/08 - Red and Ceasar are each doing well here at the Riverview. After a couple of days they are no longer feeling stressed and their true Boxer personalities are shining! How resilient Boxers are! To think that they were essentially abandoned, then turned into a shelter, then released to SCBR so they could be transported to a foster home where there are already other dogs... And today they are happy and wagging what little bit of a nub they have, and hanging out in the living room with everybody. WOW! I have even gotten some Boxer kisses from Red! They each had a shower, and were perfectly behaved while I washed off all of their grunge. Now we have two gorgeous, clean boys here. I think they like being clean--at least they like all the attention they are getting now that they are clean! We let them each meet Heidi today and that is going OK. I won't let them be alone without supervision, but no signs of aggression were noted (after that first day when meeting through the baby gate didn't look too promising). It appears that Red and Ceasar enjoy each others company but do not find it essential as long as they have a person to love them. 12/13/08 - The two GORGEOUS plain fawn Boxers with black masks have arrived at the Riverview in Maine thanks to Terry. We have named them "Red" (who is wearing a red collar) and Ceasar (who is wearing a green collar). Their story was that their owner wanted to euthanize them for no known reason and someone who knew them (and said they were friendly) surrendered them to a shelter--who turned them over to us. So far they seem to be enjoying their new residence. Even more, they seem to be loving the attention from people that they can get here. I've already gotten some nub-waging and even one kiss! Unfortunately, they are so starved for attention that they are jealous of each other ( and of Heidi) and so will be out of their crates only one at a time for now. (It's Ceasar's turn and he is laying next to me while I type). For young boys--they are reported to be four years old--they are quite calm. A bit dirty, so I suspect that a shower is in their near future! |
