HOW DO I ADOPT?
UPDATE 10/26/09 -   Happy Fall everyone!  Well, Cassius is everything we wanted in a dog/family member and more.  We love him so much, he absolutely LOVES the kids and doesn't mind all the noise they make or how much they like to sit with him on the couch snuggling.  He still sleeps on his stacked up doggy beds (two for extra softness) on my side of the bed until my husband leaves for work, once he is gone he snuggles right up next to me in the bed. :) We have made two little discoveries: when we go somewhere that Cassius can't come with us and he is upset, he will counter surf for tasty morsels we have left out.  So far he has eaten a 2lb package of hamburger, a steak and a cake, you would think I would have learned after the first time right?  Unfortunately for me, I don't always think of these things when I am hustling two 3 year olds and a 1 1/2 year old out the door, especially when my last dog was a little Bichon, never had to worry about these things with him!  Cassius will also get into the trash if we forget to bring it out to the cans when we leave the house without him, I am pretty sure he is doing these things just for spite. :)  He just loves going for rides int he car with us and I bring him everywhere if it is not too hot or too cold out and we are not going to be gone for too long.  He also so enjoys our long walks with the kids, we live on a mountain so sometimes we hike up the back behind the house and ot!
her
times we head down the driveway to the road which is a very little traveled dirt road.  Thank you all again for helping bring Cassius into our lives.  I am off to e-mail my husband at work to try to convince him that we NEED to adopt just one more....

UPDATE 5/26/09 - Cassius is doing great!  We are all having such a good time together.  Our 3 boys absolutely love him, especially our youngest who is one.  Cassius has learned very quickly the rules of the bedroom: when Daddy is in bed, Cassius has to sleep on his own bed, as soon as Daddy leaves for work in the morning, Cassius can get into bed with Mommy. :)  He's got the hang of it, sure enough, as soon as the door closes behind my husband, Cassius is snuggling right up next to me and using my husband's pillow!  He loves going for long walks on our mountain, lots of room to run and stretch his legs.  He isn't too sure about our horse yet, I'm pretty sure he just thinks he is a giant dog as he tries to get him to play.  Cassius is very well trained, he doesn't beg for food, he is very gentle with our boys, he just thinks he is a lot smaller than he actually is!  At heart, he is a lap dog trapped in a BIG dog body.  He loves to go for rides in the car and he just settles down and sleeps while riding.  He does behave pretty well with our two cats, every now and then he will chase them trying to get them to play, but all in all, they just ignore each other.  My friend brings her Lhasa/ShiTzu mix over and he loves to play with her.  He does a great job letting me know when someone is here and makes me feel very safe as I am homme alone with the boys quite a bit.  My husband leaves for work at 4am and doesn't get home until 5pm, so even though Cassius is really a wimp, nobody else knows that!  He has a good loud, strong bark and looks quite intimidating when he runs out to someone's car when they come up the driveway!  In a nutshell, he is the perfect dog for our family and we love him like he has been with us for years. :o)  I have him signed up for obedience starting this Thursday.

UPDATE 5/5/09 - I know it is earlier than necessary to write in, but I am just so excited to tell you all how Cassius is doing!  He has adjusted to our home and family very well, he absolutely loves our 3 boys and has taken quite a particular interest in our youngest who is one.  He too has taken quite an interest in Cassius and has started pointing at him and saying, "Dod."  (His way of saying dog).  Our 3 year old twins love Cassius too, they really enjoy helping feed him his breakfast and supper and spoiling him with treats.  They also got quite a kick out of riding in the car with him and bringing him inside a store, (PetSmart), where Cassius was very well mannered even though some other dogs were barking at him to get his attention.  He just kept on sniffing everything.  Boy does he love to ride in the car, you can't even say it out loud or he thinks we are going somewhere now!  :)  Cassius loves to be with us all, but he is definitely Mommy's boy, he sleeps on a giant fluffy dog bed on my side of the bed and snores just as loud as my husband.  I actually get snoring in stereo now. ;o)  He follows me everywhere I go and he is fitting in great, we love him so much.  We are sure we hit the rescue dog lottery with Cassius!  Thank you SCBR for bringing him into our lives.

4/26/09 - I went to my new home today!! I get three little kids to take care of and love forever!

4/9/09
- Cassius is just the most loveable big lug you could find.  He loves our walks and we are going further each day with the gang.  He walks fine on the gentle leader, which I have been using on him because he is so strong and, when walking three of them, I need every edge I can get.  He is filling out and looks great and gets many compliments.  He loves meeting the ladies and is becoming much more comfortable meeting men.  He loves breakfast and eagerly starts trolling for dinner around 5:00.  He has been going to work with me and behaves admirably.  He loves riding in the car and settles down immediately upon jumping in.  When I cannot take him, he is crated with no problems at all.  So if you are looking for a loving, velcro, lapdog.  Cassius is the man.

3/16/09 - Cassius the velcro dog. He has been at the doghouse since Feb 26th and has happily settled in. He listens well, sits when asked, and waits for his food until given permission. He's a bit hesitant around men, but is willing to meet them if they give him the time to get comfortable. We have had some gentlemen callers who have taken the time and after about an hour have wound up with Cassius the lapdog. I don't think his vision is 100%, but he navigates around fine, except perhaps for the glass front door. He has gone to work with me and behaved admirably. All in all he has been the perfect boxer boy.

3/4/09 - Cassius arrived here a happy boy.  He is an owner surrender that lived with cats, another boxer (Chloe) & kids.   He is under weight and shows signs of it  but with some good food he will put on a small amount of weight. He is very sweet and is learning the ropes of the house.  He likes to be a lap dog.  He goes out does his business, runs around the yard a bit and is ready to come in. He is very vocal about having to go out and has had no accidents inside.  He has been enjoying the snow and really loves going for walks.  He gets along well with Boxer Anneke and Greyhound Sasha and has learned quickly who is boss   Cassius is a very strong boy and will take a bit of practice to walk on the leash better but it has been so cold, icy and windy that we have not had much opportunity to really walk him.  I know we are all looking forward to it.  He may be 6 years old, but he loves to play.
