| MEET: BUSTER |
| Hi Folks!!! I'm Buster and I'm living in Maine right now so that I can see a specialist who is taking care of the problems I'm having with my legs. They call it TLO or something like that. I don't know what that means... I just know I get to live with this really nice family and they take me to this nice doctor who does stuff to help me walk. I'm looking for my new family, but I won't be ready to go for a little while because I have to keep going to the nice doctor's to take long naps. Boy do I feel fuzzy when I wake up! Don't they know I'm already having a hard enough time walking?? My foster mom says that my doctor's care is really expensive, but I'm not to worry because they're going to make sure I get it all. She says there are nice people like you out there who will make donations and then there are grants to make up the difference. I don't know what grants are... but I sure am learning about nice people! Thanks! Donate to Buster's care here. 5/10/09 – According to the orthopedic specialist Buster cannot have surgery on his other leg until it completely blows out (which could be 6 months or a year or more). The surgery is very expensive and can be anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000, depending on the State it would be done in. Therefore we felt Buster really is not adoptable like this. He is going to stay with his foster family as a permanent foster boy. He has been living with them for several months now and feels he is already “home” & they are very happy to have him too. Congrats Buster! 3/19/09 - Well, Buster went to the vets today for his check up and xrays. It has been 8 weeks since his surgery and the orthopedic surgeon was very pleased with the results. Yeah, he now gets to be loose in the house with the other dogs. The down side is he can still only be leashed walked for another 8 weeks. This TPLO sugery is a long process but he should be good as new when he is through it all. Buster is one sweet guy but the look he gave me when we dropped him off for xrays could have stopped you cold. He was much happier today when we picked him up. The look on his face tonight when he could be out of the crate with everyone was a like a little kid on christmas morning. We are going to see how things go for a couple of weeks and what is up with the other leg once he starts using it more before we decide when to schedule the surgery for his other leg. I'll try to post some more now that he is release from doggy captivity. 1/19/09 - Buster is home safe and sound from his surgery. He was really happy to see us and full of wiggles. Now the problem is keeping him from hurting his new knee. We were given a sling to walk him with so he doesn't put undo pressure on that leg. UHHHHH, not being super co-ordinated myself this is proving to be quiet a task. You have no idea how hard it is to walk him while he is wiggling around so glad to be out of his crate. Oh yes did I mention he has to be kept in the crate unless we are taking him out to go to potty. I hope we get better at this because right now one of us is bound to get hurt. Yesterdays snow really doesn't help matters. But I'm so glad he did so well and came through it great. 1/17/09 - Buster came to us with some major issues with his back legs. He saw our orthopedic specialist in Maine and the doctor determined his only option is TPLO surgery in BOTH his back legs! Even with the good discount this vet gives us, it is a total of $5,200 to do both legs! We do not have a reserve to pay for this and desperately need donations to cover the surgeries. Buster already had his first leg done and will be back in his foster home on Monday. He will not be able to be adopted until he recovers from his second surgery in about 8 weeks, so he will be around for several months in his foster home. 1/5/09 - Buster left this morning for his foster home in Maine. We are really going to miss this lovable boy. We look forward to watching his progress once he gets to Maine, and cannot wait to see who the lucky family will be to give Buster his forever home! Good Luck Buster and thanks for all of the boxer kisses you gave to us in your stay in NJ! 1/2/09 - My daughters just discovered this morning that Buster loves to chase a flashlight beam also! Poor Roxy was looking at all of us as if we were nuts as Buster chased the beam everywhere. 12/31/08 - Happy New Year to all! Buster continues to WOW us with his charming personality! Buster is truly one of the sweetest and most loving dogs that I have ever met. He loves to play...but he loves snuggling even more. He is the most gentle "big guy" around my two young daughters. He already sits for both girls on command and does fairly well "staying" and "releasing" of toys and treats. He has no food aggression at all. He continues to "roll over" for my very dominant female Roxy and gives her kisses to boot even if she is straddling him and growling. When introduced to our two cats he barely glanced their way with their fussing and growling at him. He just sniffed them and turned around to seek out the next adventure! This boy loves to please everyone!Unfortunately at this time we are in the process of relocating Buster to a foster home in Maine for a medical evaluation of his left hind leg with an orthopedic specialist and we must put any adoption on hold. I have no doubts whatsoever that as soon as Buster is on all four paws again he will be adopted quickly! This is a dog that is well worth waiting for! 12/28/08 - Buster arrived at our home early this morning. He is a gem! He was very excited to meet our daughters and could hear our boxer girl in the background. Even with all of the excitement, Buster remained fairly calm and there was minimal pulling on the leash. After meeting the family Buster calmly walked into his crate when instructed and laid down to watch everyone in his new surroundings. He did not fuss one bit while staying in his crate (even during the girl's lunch time!) As soon as everyone seemed adjusted Buster came out to meet our very dominant girl Roxy. He immediately rolled onto his back to be "checked out" by her. Once Buster had Rox's approval, he got up and gave her a big boxer kiss! Both dogs are currently laying by my feet as I type this. This is one charming boy who should have no problems finding his forever home! More to come after he gets groomed (tomorrow morning) and goes to the vet for a check-up. |
