| UPDATE 12/30/09 - This is Bruschi's 6 month update. We cannot believe that it has been only 6 months because it feels like we have had him forever! Bruschi continues to charm everyone that he meets. My family and friends in NY love him and people in Boston can't get enough of him. We are still doing obedience classes and also doing doggie day school once a week where the trainer has been working very hard on his dog agression issues. He has made a lot of progress but still needs some work on manners and greeting other dogs. We currently do not take him to any off leash dog parks yet because he and the other dogs are unpredictable but he does go on two long walks a day and we also try our best to take him to a fenced in park with a 30 foot leash so he can still run around.
At home, Bruschi is very calm and relaxed. He greets us everyday with wiggles and we also play with his doggie toys. Once the two of us are settled in on the couch Bruschi does the same and relaxes on his doggie bed. He is doing very well and I know that with work and more training he will continue to be a well balanced dog. UPDATE 9/26/09 - This is Bruschi's second adoption update. He is doing so much better. He gained a little bit more weight too. We decided to mix his dry food with some wet food and he now eats everything in his bowl. He is also shown progress with socializing with other dogs. He is not so aggressive and I see his behaviour as more curious. We are continuing to go to obedience school and it is working out well too. Bruschi is on best behavior and gets along well with the other dogs while in class. We brought Bruschi to several backyard BBQs and he was the life of the party. Everyone was so surprised how good he was. Overall we are very happy to have him and he seems to feel more comfortable and more at home. We are also trying to train him to walk on the treadmill to expend some energy. Eventually it will progress into a run on the treadmill. UPDATE 8/25/09 - Bruschi is doing great and is settling into his forever home. It took him a while to adjust to our apartment but after a couple of sniffs around he was right at home. Around the house, he is just perfect. He doesnt bark, get on the furniture, pee, poo, or counter surf. However, when he sees other dogs while we are out on walks he tends to get over excited. At times I think he just wants to play but other times I think he is lashing back at another dog. We are working on this at obedience school. We only had 2 classes so far but we are practicing what we learn at home. It seems like it is working. We took him to Central Park in NYC and he loved it. There were definitely some minor run ins with other dogs on leash but otherwise he adjusted well to the big city considering he came from Maine. Many tourists loved him and took pictures of him. He was quite popular. We stayed for a weekend with my family in New York and everyone loved him and was shocked that he was so good around the house. He also travels well in the car. The vet said he is in good health but can stand to gain a couple of more pounds. He is kind of a picky eater and we are still looking for the right type of food for him. I think we are going to try half dry and half wet to make it more appealing. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have this wonderful boy in our lives. 7/25/09 - Bruschi has just left with his new family :). 7/12/09 - Unfortunately Bruschi has come back into rescue. Apparently he would not leave the new owners cat alone. Bruschi got along fine with other dog in the home and adored the child in the home. So Bruschi is looking for a new home with no cats 6/25/09 - Bruschi went home today! 6/14/09 - Bruschi is now allowed to have the run of the house. Free At Last! Boy does he like to play! He will play by himself for awhile, but he would really love to have someone who will be willing to play with him. Anyone want to play??? 6/7/09 - We had a lot of people at our house yesterday as we were celebrating my son's graduation from High School. Perfect time for Bruschi to meet people young and old. Bruschi gets very excited meeting new people especially kids. I think he got a little too excited for children under 4, but he just loves them. On his paperwork it said that his original family was going to have a baby this past September, so he probably has been around babies. I think he would settle down and be alright with young children, but with new people he does get really excited. 6/02/09 - Bruschi has developed a swollen area on his healing leg. The vet said that it is probably a reaction to the internal stitches as they dissolve. Hopefully the swelling will go down in a week's time. Bruschi loves to go for rides in the car, most times he will lay down up after a few minutes of driving. As Bruschi has started to feel better he is pulling more on the leash. I have started using a Gentle Leader with him. He does not like it but he needs to know I am the boss. I would recommend to the forever home that they purchase a Gentle Leader Halter for him, I think he would tolerate this better. 5/28/09 - The best way to describe Bruschi is "Lover Boy." I loves to cuddle and to just be with his people. Today we visited the Dr. and had the stitches out. Bruschi is healing fine, but will need several more weeks of quiet time in his crate. Bruschi is really smart and a quick learner. He knows "sit" and "shake." We are working on down and wait. Even though Bruschi has to spend a lot of time in the crate he is really good about going in. I just have to tell him "in" and he goes. It also helps to know that he will get a peanut butter treat when he goes in. By the way he loves peanut butter. 5/13/09 - Bruschi came to us yesterday after having surgery to repair his broken leg on Monday. He is a very loveable guy who can't understand why he can't be out of his crate to be with us. He needs to stay in his crate to let his broken leg heal though. Even though he does not like being in the crate he is very good about it, which makes things easier for everyone. He is a petite boy who could use a couple of pounds. We will work on that as he settles in. 5/12/09 - I picked up Bruschi this afternoon from the vet. He is doing very well. He loved being outside and wasn't well for going back in a crate. He is resting quietly in the crate and in a little while I will give him dinner. |
