| UPDATE 12/9/09 - Bruno has completely settled into being part of our family. He is a wonderful dog with a good heart. Everyone loves him (including my daughter's friends who adore him), and he is excellent socially with everyone.
Now that winter has arrived, he is enjoying himself greatly playing in the snow. But more than anything, he want to be held by anyone who happens to be seated (unless someone takes out the car keys as he wants to be first out the door for a ride). We are very lucky that he is part of our family! UPDATE 9/6/09 - Bruno is doing great. We are very fortunate to have him become part of our family. He and Barbie (11.5 year old female Boxer) have adjusted to each other very well. She definitely enjoys having his company, and while he sometimes has more energy than she can handle, he is perceptive enough to know when he needs to find someone or something else to play with. We just started obedience training with him, and he seems quick to learn. Healthwise he is great, and is eating well. Socially he is a fantastic dog. While he is defintely attached to my son and myself, he is happy to be with other people and content to be held and petted. 8/6/09 - Bruno has been adopted! 8/4/09 - Sorry its long. I can't get this guy off the computer! From Bruno: I DID IT!.... I DID IT!..... I learned how to box.! These two boxer residents here made sure that before I left for my forever home, I knew how and I now I do!!! I am SOOOO proud of myself – and I’m pretty good at it too. You should see the move I’ve developed ( well – I copied it from my foster fur brother here).... You do a one- two /left- right box and then spin your whole body off the ground so you wind up on the side of your sparring partner…. It’s SOOOO COOL! I’ve also been learning about patiently waiting at the door before I go outside, and to leave the toys on the table when FM takes them away. I do get a little focused on a toy sometimes and will play with it until it is all wet (I’m a little slobbery – by hey – what true boxer isn’t?) I have tried to walk on the leash without pulling and foster mom said I could benefit from a Sporn harness (WHATeveeer that is----- Buca and Mugsy wear theirs when they go on walks so guess its okay - and won't spoil my "coolness") …. Here are the things I like: PUPPERONI…(they are sooo good); something really soft to lay down on in my crate if you want me to spend time there (it’s okay with me)…, sqeaky toys, soccer balls and lots and lots of rubs and time with my people (I like that the best). So if you have those things… I’d love to meet you! Until you come get me… I’ll just hang out here! (They say I can stay as long as I need to). Bruno continues to be an unbelievable house guest. He has an issue that we noticed before we got his medical records which consisted of his regurgitating (what I call “blurping”) of water after drinking – it’s just water… no food. I decided to feed him elevated to help with his digestion and he has learned that after he eats, he has to sit quietly for about 20 minutes because he is quite the energizer bunny… constantly on the move. So he eats in his crate – and when he’s done, he just lays down and hangs out – no complaints. I do feed him with a cup of water mixed in to get some fluid without the concern of “blurping” and that works – no problems. When he does drink from the bowl, I interrupt him after every 8-9 licks and make him take a break just by making a kissy sound. That seems to be working. He still needs weight. He is quite a butt wiggler when you talk to him and he adores my BF. We will miss him terribly, but he needs to have his own people – and he would do well with a furry companion because he LOVES to play - but he will entertain himself with a toy as well. 7/29/09 - We've learned some things about this wonderful boy in the past few days: He loves to be with people. He either follows me around or my boyfriend around. IIf he could possibly crawl inside your skin to be with you, he would. He likes to sit on laps (literally), not the couch, but the lap that is on the couch, or the lap that is sitting on the floor. It's quite comical watching this tall guy trying to position himself on someone - he does get off easily enough when told to - without a fuss. It seems he hasn't had much of the finer things in a dogs life, such as treats other than milk bones, but we are slowing trying to introduce him to life as it should be. He has the absolutely softest mouth, and is not comfortable taking anything from the hand, he will, but ever so gently. He has discovered sqeaky toys and is having a blast with one as I type this. He does like to run and chase (and be chased) by my two boxer kids. He is not too sure about the whole "boxing" thing, but by the time they are done with him... .he'll be a pro. He does not bark much.... in fact barely. When I come in from work, not a peep from him - he just sits in his crate patiently waiting. In the morning, he waits quietly to be let out. He does do a bit of "ooowwoooiwwwng" and howling when first put into the crate, but he stops after a few minutes. There have been no signs of counter surfing. And absolutely no interest when the refrigerator door is opened. (he could teach my guys a thing or two about that!.) He does seem to know commands though - without his name attached... ie. Come, Sit, Down. He is an absolute joy to have here. 7/26/09 - Bruno arrived this morning. He is an owner surrender who met me half way. He rode in the back of the car in a crate as the owner stated he doesn't ride well in the back seat. We stopped for a run before coming home and he rode fairly well in the back seat, but that could use some work. He is still a puppy even at 2.. He has had no formal obediance training but does know sit, down, and "hello"(paw). He walks fairly well on a leash. He is such a good natured boy. My two resident boxers have welcomed him and after initial greetings through the crate, and then on leashes, they are fine. He is so well tempered. He hasn't really barked yet, but rather "oofed" when my boyfriend came home. He seems to like men and gets very wiggly when he's by him. He did meet some friends of ours and was in a lap (literally) after about 2 minutes. He's a little head shy and cowers when someone is loud. He does like to chase tennis and soccer balls, but once he gets there, he's not sure what to do with it. He apparently didn't do stairs... he's been up and down the deck steps dozens of times albeit not so gracefully. He did go up and down the basement steps so thats just something to work on. (He's tall and lopey... sort of Marmaduke like characteristics.) Here's what he has to say: Bruno here! I was a little uncertain when I got here - after leaving my family today.... but boy. .. did I luck out?!? The lady of the house has these two furry residents who are alot shorter then me (and my tongue is alot longer then theirs - so I won that contest) - she has a really big back yard that I've been exploring all day, and am not too sure of what I'm suppossed to do with the toys and the steps to the deck, (I keep tripping on those - I don't think I had them at my other house - but I'm working on steps... one foot then then next!). Not sure what to do with the furry residents either... they keep sniffing me and I let them but they keep sniffing and sniffing... I guess it's okay cause they are letting me sniff them back. I had a bath today and that was really nice... the lady let me play with the stream of water as it came out of the hose - I like the way it feels on my muzzle, ...and she got all wet.. it was pretty funny...... gotta go... her BF is calling me to play! Bruno is just awesome. He is submissive with my male and female (head down and turned away). He is not food aggressive at all. In fact, when my two were eating, (he wasn't ready to eat), he just laid down in the middle of the floor and watched me. I think he would do well with someone who is active - because he deserves to be out enjoying life and not stuck in a crate. He doesn't seem to know too much about playing (although he was finally zooming around the yard with BF)and I believe that while his family cared for him, they didn't quite know what to do with a big boxer boy like him and he spent much time lying down. He is a mush and a love. We have been graced with his presence. You would be as well. |
