| UPDATE 7/11/10 - Our Boomer is doing fabulous! I wish I could show you pictures. He is crazy fun, loving, adorable, with all kinds of funny faces. He definitely keeps us entertained! We took him to the vet a few weeks ago and he has gained some weight that he needs to go on a diet. See he not only eats the food we put in HIS dish but when my other dog doesn't feel like eating and it just sits there, he will eventually eat hers too. So now we are decreasing the amount of food we give him. Oh and because we didn't know his actual birthday my daughter and I decided to pick a birthdate for him and we chose Michael Jackson's birthdate. Because we got him a week after MJ died and my daughter loves Michael Jackson. And now we won't ever forget Boomer's birthday. So he'll be 2 next month!! I can't believe it! He has been a wonderful addition to our family, we are so glad to have him!! Thank you!! UPDATE 12/26/09 - I know I am a day early in sending this, normally it's due on the 27th but I figured I better do it before I forget. Well, Boomer is doing great!! Our first Christmas was not as bad as I thought it would be--he only ate (unwrapped) one gift and it happened to be mine! But he got caught before he did any damage to it!! He and Tasha, my other boxer, get along great. They are ALWAYS sleeping together, sometimes on top of each other. He is very playful, constantly has a toy in his mouth. As a matter of fact, he got a few toys in his stocking from Santa and actually fell asleep with one in his mouth-it was sooooo cute!! I must admit he did gain a little weight, which I think is good because I thought he was too skinny when we got him. I'm sure he will lose the weight in the spring/summer. All in all he is doing wonderful!! Everyone just loves him! UPDATE 9/30/09 - Boomer is doing great!! He is one CRAZY DOG!! He is very lovable! When he stands up and hugs you with is front paws, you can actually feel him squeezing you. It's sooo cute! He is a very curious dog. He has to know everything that is going on but he doesn't say much. So far he only barks when he wants to play. My other boxer, Tasha, barks at people in front of my house and he just sits and looks at the people and at Tasha but doesn't bark. He is doing pretty good with his obedience training, he graduates on October 1st. They will actually put a graduation cap on him and give him a diploma. Can't say it will stay on his head but we'll see. Great photo op! I can't wait! UPDATE 7/27/09 - When we brought Boomer home our female, Tasha, was not too happy with us. She probably thought, "today is my birthday and this is what they gave me? Great." So she was a little put off but they love each other now. They are constantly playing. I don't remember my other boxer having this much energy. But they sleep together, they eat out of each other's bowls without a problem, and Boomer follows Tasha EVERYWHERE. Like he's gonna miss something! Boomer loves our pool. We have an inground pool with steps to walk into the low end and he walks in by himself! Oh, and he loves the sprinkler! I have never seen a dog get so excited about a sprinkler. I have videotaped it because it is soooo funny! Because of where we live, we don't have to worry about cars, traffic or anything dangerous, we let the dogs run loose in the front yard only when we are out with them. Because Boomer follows Tasha everywhere he never leaves our sight. Anyway, as for his obedience training we have not done that as of yet. Due to the fact that, our schedule and Petco's schedule do not coincide, and the fact our current finances are lacking we have not been able to sign him up for classes. We definitely plan on doing it next month because he needs it! But in the meantime, my husband and I have been working with him on different commands. We have trained our other 2 boxers in the past so we know what to do. We will let you know when we sign him up for classes. Other than that, we are having a blast with Boomer and everyone in my family, immediate and extended, love him and think he's great! 6/27/09 - Yesterday Boomer had the greatest day ever. First off our building was hosting a block party, so the street was closed off for all to enjoy. Boomer and Maddie played with tons of kids, drank water from the fire hydrant while the kids played in it, helpded make tie-dye t-shirts, got bites of everyone's hot dogs and hamburgers and then the best part of all....Boomer's forever family came to get him!! The best part of the his forever family is his new skin sister. She was totally in love from the moment she laid eyes on him. 6/16/09 - Sigh….we are in love with Boomer. He is just such a sweet boy. He is getting along fabulously with our 2 year old female boxer. They are playing and running and snuggling together like they have been best buddies their whole lives. He has met lots of other dogs and people in the park and at the dog run and he has played so well and is so very friendly to all. He has lots of puppy energy and will need someone willing to exercise and play with him so he can run some of it out, but if exercised properly he is a calm and sweet as can be in the house. No one has ever taken the time to teach Boomer's proper manners, so his need some work. We have been working on basic commands and in less than a week we can already so some progress, so we know this smart boy will do well with some time and consistency. He doesn’t love his crate, but will go in with a little coaxing and after a few huffs, puffs and whines he settles in nicely. We have left him out with free roam of the house for several hours at a time and he has done just fine. (Of course we make sure tempting things like flip flops and sneakers are put away before doing this!) 6/11/09 - Boomer arrived last night and what a sweet boy! He is a 10 month old tumbling, licking, nub wiggling, “kidney beaning,” ball of energy and we are already totally in love! He and our boxer girl are playing together like they have been best friends for ever. He protested a bit when we put him in the kennel at bed time, but settled down in only a few minutes and we didn’t hear another peep until morning. Get your applications in; this love bug won’t be around for long! |
