4/20/09 - Due to Bindi's unknown health issues and that she is not healthy enough to be adopted, she will be staying in her foster home as a permanent foster girl.  Bindi's foster family loves her and with SCBR's support they will take care of her until the end.

4/16/2009
Bindi has not had any improvement in her health.  She continues to cough and hack up blood.  We know there is internal bleeding, she was found anemic in all her tests.  She has slowed down quite a bit and no longer cares to go on long walks with her sisters.  We have done all we can for her, but we wish we can do more.
As I have mentioned in previous updates, Bindi has been tested for almost everything.  All that is left to check on her condition is an x-ray, then what?  Best to leave well enough alone sometimes at her age.  She is around 9 years.
She does love her kisses and some treats at most times.  However, she is now getting picky at eating.
We are making every effort to keep her comfortable, warm and full of love.  Even though she has been a mean old bully to my girls in the past, Bindi can be affectionate and loving to us.  We love her dearly and will make her every wish and desire come true within our power.

- Bindi has slowed down quite a bit. Since she vomited blood three weeks ago, her appetite
has changed a little bit. She is more picky now with what she eats and does not eat as much at dinner
time. Her thirst is still strong. She will drink water as often as she can, and as much as she can. She
will drink more water then her bladder can hold. Because of this we monitor and limit her water intake.
We just don't know what's going on with her. All her tests are negative and only shows that she is
anemic. The vet can't figure it out and we can't keep testing her when nothing shows up. She has not
vomited blood again since three weeks ago, but now and then she will hack up splatters of blood. We just
have to pray and hope for the best for this little lady. Will post again if anything changes.

1/28/09 - Bindi has been here now since the first week of October. I have to say she gained very little weight since then. Her bones don't seem to stick out as much as when she arrived. However, you do still see them. She may have gained only 2-5lbs. None the less, it is still weight gain.
After all the tests we took with the vet to ensure she has no medical problems, she still remains thin. Her appetite remains very healthy tough. She loves to eat. She is not as fussy as my two spoiled girls, who turn their noses up at anything that doesn't meet their "stinky standards". Bindi's appetite may be this way because she was once a stray, so any food with a decent smell appeals to her. Because of this we enjoy feeding her lots of treats. She is a "sit and catch dog", where you toss her a treat in the air and no matter what, she catches it! Sometimes it is too funny that she can catch just about any treat, no matter whatever, or however, you toss it!
Bindi can be very playful at times with her people companions. She very loyal and loving to her owner, almost possessive like. She sometimes bullies my little boxer away from my husband when they cuddle, because she wants to cuddle with him instead. As my previous write ups state, Bindi is a bully with the other dogs. Because of this, again I strongly recommend her as an only dog. She would be a wonderful companion to her new family members. Also, because there are no kids in our house, I believe Bindi likes a more quite environment. No children running around playing loudly. She is older and naps quite a bit. So it is pretty quiet here.
When we do have parties or guests over, Bindi growls at any affection going on toward the other dogs and will lunge at either of my dogs, which ever one happens to be close by. Just a weird quirk of hers. We don't understand it. However, she never has ever snapped at us at all. She respects people completely! She guards us completely! She just loves people and wants to be the best pet ever. We have grown to love her and we seem to understand her mannerisms better. Once she is understood, getting along with her is easier. She really is a wonderful, loving, soft, obedient dog [and a bully once in awhile]. But I know she would be a great addition to anyone's home.

12/10/08 - Bindi has been with us for almost three months. She has not gained any weight and we will be checking with the vet soon to see if maybe she has a thyroid, or some other condition. She is very healthy and happy otherwise. She loves her walks and likes to play with her people companions. She only plays with my other dogs at the park, otherwise she bosses them around the house and likes to be the bully.
Because of this, I strongly believe Bindi is best as an only dog. I have a 6 yr old female, Cece, at 70 lbs. When Bindi tries to bully her around, Cece bullies back. Bindi backs off but does not give up. We also have a younger dog, Athena, she is 3 yrs old and weighs only 35lbs. When Athena plays with us or gets attention from our people visitors, Bindi lunges at her and holds her down. She has been too rough at one time and has made a small tear in Athena's ear. We now keep a harness on her to grab her quickly when she goes after either one of my girls. She is the alpha and she strongly let's my girls know that.
Bindi can also be the sweetest dog ever. She listens well to her commands, she is cuddly and loves to give kisses. She is also the perfect watch dog and hears anyone that comes near our home. She is really protective of us and our home. A trait we really admire.
I know Bindi would make the perfect companion to anyone who wants a strong, loyal, loving bond from their only dog. She is a soft, loving, cuddle bug and would be the perfect pet in any household with no other pets. She bonds quickly to whoever shows her true kindness and love. Could that be you?

11/11/08 - Bindi has been doing really great in her foster home with us. She now gets along with her foster sisters, Athena and Cece. No more dog fights and more respect for each others space. Bindi is the alpha in the house, right after my husband, and her foster sisters respect that. After all she is the elder one. It has taken Bindi a good couple of weeks for adjusting in her new surroundings and establishing her place among her "pack". So it was a little tough at first. This is always expected of a new arrival in anyone's home.
Bindi is easy to foster. She listens well, and does not hesitate to let you know when she needs a bathroom break. She is a real sweetheart and a joy to have in the house. She loves kisses and hugs and is still pretty playful. We have fallen for this sweet "young" senior and we know it will be tough to see her leave us when her forever family calls. Could that be you?

10/27/08 - Bindi has settled very nicely here in my home. She gets along great with my girls now, no more fights. They all do their own thing and respect each others space. I think Bindi knows now that she does not have to fight for food or affection in this house, there is plenty to go around. The first couple of weeks is always tough for a foster. It's difficult to determine the fosters personality or demeanor while he/she gets settled into their new surroundings.
Bindi loves going to the park and running with her foster sisters. She chases my younger boxer Athena around the park and tries to catch up with her. Athena is too fast for her though. I am surprised at how well Bindi is off the leash. She listens really well and does not run off. Bindi is also obedient in the house. She knows the commands "sit", "lay down" "no" and "paw". Bindi also knows "go pee" when we put here out. She is truly an angel with the softest fur ever. She loves her hugs and kisses and cuddles up warmly with you. She is really quite the perfect dog. I know she will find her perfect forever home soon. She truly deserves it.

10/6/08 - Bindi has seen the vet on Friday the 3rd of Oct. She weighs 50lbs. She has had her shots and Heartworm test, which is negative. Also Bindi is older then she looks. The vet checked her eyes, teeth and body condition. The vet has found little lumps and bumps on her skin, usually due to old age. Boxers are usually prone to minor lumps and bumps as they age. Therefore, the vet has estimated her age at 7 0r 8 years old. However, Bindi is a beautiful brindle and looks so much younger then she is. She is not a hyper, jumpy dog. She is very affectionate but not real playful at all with my other two dogs. She does get really jealous when we play with my other dogs and tends to want to stop it by growling and possibly lunging at them. Because of this I strongly recommend she is an
only dog in the house. Not sure about cats....but there could be a jealousy issue there also.
Bindi is a protective dog, she barks at anyone that comes near our property. I believe this to be a good trait. I feel safe with her in the house. I believe Bindi would be a great companion to anyone who wants a loving, affectionate,
protective dog. She is a "young" senior. She won't last long as a foster, Someone is sure to grab her up quickly!

09/28/08 - Bindi has arrived, thanks to Tracy and her lovely daughter for bringing her here. Bindi is very thin. Too thin, in fact she wobbles on her back legs for lack of muscle strength. It's as though she hasn't eaten a thing in weeks. It could be just all the stress of being in a shelter for a couple of months. She was a stray to a shelter on July 20th.
Bindi is quite a sweetie. Very soft natured. She is so gentle. I gave her a bath first thing after she arrived, as I was forewarned by Tracy of her "shelter scent". Bindi didn't seem to mind her bath too much. She is a water licker. However, she couldn't wait to get out of the tub. Bindi looks much younger than the 8 years the shelter guessed her at. She also gets along okay with my two females, Athena and Cece. There was only one altercation at dinner time though. She wanted my alpha female's dinner bowel instead of her own. So a fight broke out. No major damage though, just more noise then anything. We now separate them at feeding time. After that fight Bindi is a little skittish around Cece. Cece has no problems with her, just keep her out of her dinner bowl and all is good. Bindi loves hugs and kisses and follows me all over the house. She appears to be clingy at first, but she just wants her people's attention and love around her. After her bath, her fur is so soft I can't stop petting and hugging her. Plus, she loves the attention. I will update more over the week as get to know her more
.
