| 4/18/09 - Bahama finally made the forever trek upstairs to Ryan's. 11/17/08 - Morning update on the puppies. Bahama is incredible! What a wonderful dog and a truly caring, attentive mom. As exhausted as she was, she didn't sleep much-they barely had a chance to make a peep and she was right there, making sure whatever they needed or wanted was done-I have had a litter with a "not so good mom", so this is heaven, trust me :))) I did sleep on the floor next to the box, but even if I hadn't been there, Mama had it under control. She is very very tired this morning-she has finally gone to sleep for a bit. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO AUNT LIZ AND MY SON RYAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were here to be the extra hands that I needed and the moral support that was worth more than anything. Ryan has done this before with me, so he was prepared for the bossy, in-charge person that I can become :)) Hopefully, I still have a friend and a good relationship with my kid this morning lol It would not have gone as well as it did without them for sure! This little dog really couldn't have been more cooperative :))) She labored for most of the day-just easy labor, a bit of nesting, resting in her whelping box. The real hard contractions started about 9 o'clock and she was finished by a little past midnight. She'd have a pup, rest for maybe 10-15 minutes and have another (it did seem like the moment I left Aunt Liz with her to use the bathroom or grab a pepsi, or whatever, she would drop a pup lol). The last one waited a bit longer than the others and we couldn't wait to be able to have her move so we could check out her other side to make sure there were no more hiding over on the side of her uterus-but, fortunately, nope she was all finished :))))) They all appear healthy, are eating very well and are active. Please, send lots and lots and lots of positive vibes and good thoughts that they continue to grow into roly-poly happy puppies. 11/16/08 - well, I have to tell ya.... it went very fast and very smooth... Dee will give ya the details. I just wanted to give a big thanks to Dee for this undertaking. Bahama is very lucky to be able to be safe, warm and with an experienced whelping person. One of the pups came out was not breathing. Dee was on it. cleared his nostrils, began stimulating with a soft towel and tilted him down so gravity would clear anything that was clogged. He is fine and made it because of her experience... the next 8 weeks are going to be work.......I know Dee was sleeping on the floor this evening next to the whelping box. All paws crossed these babies stay this healthy...... Bahama appears to be a wonderful mommy.... exhausted but wonderful :) 11/10/08 PM- That was sort of what I was thinking in terms of time. She is on Orijen puppy food-I started her on it the moment she arrived. She gets yogurt with every meal-and she seems to be enjoying getting food on a regular basis, poor girl. We will try to put at least a couple of pounds on her since they lose so much while lactating, but I am glad that Dr. King felt she was in relatively good shape. And she's right! her coat is really very nice. 11/10/08 AM - Hey folks just returned from Vetting Bahama. Dr.King feels we have a week or less... we have milk in her teets. Her temp was 103 today.. when we get to 98-96 we're with in 24 hours of babies. Dr, Kind would like her on top shelf puppy food and for her to have some milk products...... Yogurt is fine. She felt although she is skinny she is in good shape... her coat is pretty healthy. Waiting for results of fecal....... 11/7/08 - This is one sweet, wonderful girl!!!!!!!!! She is currently sound asleep on a comforter at my feet. She smiles, she wiggles, she beams :)) I will update more when I get to know her a little better, but for now she is safe and warm and happy with a full belly and a soft bed to rest her VERY pregnant body on. Did I mention just how sweet this girl is? She is just a joy. |
