| UPDATE 4/26/10 - Wow! I can not believe it has been six months already and yet it seems like Baby Girl has been with us forever. Baby Girl is such a loyal, loving pet that we still do not understand why she was given up for adoption. That must have been a really hard decision for her owner. I know it must have been difficult for them and I hope they can find comfort knowing that Baby Girl has been with a very happy, loving home for half a year now and she will be here to stay. We do the best to care for her and show her the attention that she deserves. Those of you who are following along know that Baby Girl takes medicine for her insufficient pancreas. She was so small when we brought her home. At only 38lbs, you could see and practically count each bone in her rib cage. I am happy to report that Baby Girl is now weighing in around 50lbs and filling out wonderfully. She is still just as agile as ever. Baby Girl loves to run around and play. Let her loose for a minute and she bolts ahead li ke lightning then she runs right back hopping and skipping through the air like a deer through the woods. Baby Girl also plays with her toys inside. She has this pink stuffed pig that she grabs every chance she gets, if she's not too tired. She trots around the apartment squeaking the pig and holding it in her mouth like it's her baby. Her and our other dog get along great. They both have their own toys and some that they share. They both like going on walks and car rides to the park. They know how to play and get along great with other dogs. The two of them are a joy to be with and I'm glad to report we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you SCBR! UPDATE 1/18/10 - Well, it's been another month and Baby Girl keeps growing on us more and more each day. Is it possible to love this boxer anymore? She is well in step with her routine these days and is doing fantastic with the training. We feel very lucky to have found an excellent trainer at the local pet store. Everybody loves Baby Girl and she loves them right back (especially the little ones). Baby Girl might be a little shy at first, but she'll warm up to you and sit right up on your lap if you let her. She loves to snuggle up as close as she can and we love having her there to keep her warm and keep us warm. What else can I say? Baby Girl is everything we could ever hope for... smart, loyal, cuddly and adorable. You name it, she's got it! UPDATE 12/17/09 - Baby Girl is doing great!!! She started training last week and it finally feels like she belongs here. She is getting used to all the new surroundings. She is listening better and has finally stopped whining. That was really starting to make us wonder, but not anymore. She is so happy here and we are so happy to have her. She fits right in with her sister, Rita (our 2 year old lab). The two love to play with each other and they play so well. They always know when to stop so it doesn't get out of control. The Christmas tree is up and they seem to know that if they are good, Santa will bring lots of treats and presents. They don't know that the treats and presents are coming anyway. We love them so much! Baby Girl is gaining weight, slowly, and the rash is clearing up since we changed her collar. She has another training session tomorrow and 6 more after that. We just know that her behavior will improve with each class. We wish we could post pictures with these updates. She i s absolutely beautiful. Merry Christmas everyone. See you next month! UPDATE 11/17/09 - Baby Girl is doing well here at her forever home. She's still a little shy and skittish, but that's expected with all new sights and sounds to get used to. We know she's been through a lot these past couple of months so patience is the main ingredient. Baby Girl likes meeting other dogs and gets along great with our Labrador, Rita. It's like they've known each other forever and the two are a perfect pair. Baby Girl takes her domain very seriously. She is always on the look out for potential hazards and intruders. She greets guests with a shy hello, but before long she'll be climbing up on your lap for a closer look. Baby Girl loves to cuddle and will balance herself on top of you any way she can. Baby Girl loves car rides or just going out for a walk. She comes running when we get her leash and seems to want to attach herself to the harness as quick as she can. Baby Girl knows several commands like sit, stay and heal, but she only listens if she senses a treat is coming. Th is behavior is testing us well and we look forward to her obedience training starting next month. Baby Girl came to us with a rash that is clearing up with medication. Her pancreas is doing well under veterinary care, but we all agree she can stand to gain a few pounds. We are feeding a bit more than normal to meet this goal. Baby Girl doesn't mind at all! More next time... 10/17/09 - Baby Girl has been adopted! 10/13/09 - So Baby Girl has been with us a little over a week. And she has a VERY SHINEY halo!! She is just a great dog who has won over our whole neighborhood. While she is still learning not to pull on the leash, she has lots of boxer wiggles and kisses to spread around the neighborhood. She loves kids of all sizes. She doesn't jump so she is not intimidating to the younger kids. She is just a goofy love bug who wants to keep your feet warm, not too shabby!! She has made friends with our boxer girl playing nicely - even sleeping on top of one another!! BG also has been great with my young children. She is gentle with them and has yet to touch their toys. Her only downfall is that she is guided by her belly. She likes her food prompt and plentiful! She doesn't care who is around or what is going on - she just wants to eat. Not too shabby!! She is just a well mannered, mellow pup looking for a home who will take her for walks, give lots of pats and of course, treats! More to come... 10/8/09 - Baby Girl is adjusting well here. She went to the vet and her halo was pm straight and shiny! She was so well behaved and is now up to date with her shots!!! She was just an angel. The vet reported that in regard to her pancreas, as long as she stays on her medication, she will live a long and healthy life. And let me tell you folks, she is just a gem!! Get your applications in now. She is a mellow puppy who loves walks, being outside and just hanging out. She gets along great with other dogs. She is wonderful with children of all ages. BG is just an all around great dog! 10/5/09 - Baby Girl arrived on Sunday and is adjusting well. She is a sweet sweet little girl cuddled up at my feet as I type! BG takes a powder medication for her insufficient pancreas mixed in her meals, which she is eats in record time! Even our dog is stunned at the speed in which BG eats. More to come after she sees the vet on Wednesday. Pictures will follow shortly!! |
